I like bill Simmons usually, but even still my favorite bill simmons moment is when Trae hit that crazy 30 footer over brown to steal game 5 in Boston and bill tacked a 3 minute intro onto his podcast where he ranted angrily about it and then shut it off.

He has talked about how his podcast never does better numbers than immediately following a big Celtics/Patriots loss lol

ironically, it’s better for Bill’s business if the Celts lose spectacularly. they can’t be a horrible team that no one has expectations of, ofc, but if they’re a team like this that’s “supposed” to win and then doesn’t.. people are gonna wanna hear Bill’s panic podcast.

explained that I don’t hate the guy but Boston fans seem to think people saying “he’s 5th best in the league” is disrespect and being a hater towards him when it’s not. It makes people come out and say “see, we told you he’s 5th best in the league and not top 3” when he has bad games.” I was effusive in complimenting his demeanor and him as a person but just that I rank him “5th at best.”

The replies I was met with was that it is being hateful to consider him 5th best and mass downvotes from Celtics  flairs. One person asked me who the 4 ahead of him are; I said Jokic  , Giannis  , Shai, Luka  , and a pre-injury Embiid  .” I was told that was also being a hater.

So if it feels like people are knives out for JT, a large part of that is Boston media gang and Celtics flairs who insist that considering him 5/6th best in the league is an insult. So when he doesn’t stack up, he gets the treatment bc people en masse say “see, we told you so.”

Exactly, they want everyone to swoon over Tatum and the Celtics like they do over LeBron or Curry or jokic or Giannis. But that will never happen because those players have always been more likeable and more exciting. And nobody is ever taking prime Tatum over those players in their prime.

This Celtics team is just boring and unlikeable.

I think Brown deserves some shit as well, but Tatum is in “top five in the league” conversations and Brown isn’t. That’s probably why he’s getting the brunt of it.

My guess it that people want to lift up Brown and the rest of Boston’s teammates in order to minimize what Tatum has been able to accomplish. Brown is often a great Robin, but he was epically bad in that 2nd half. The Celtics took Tatum out for 3 minutes in the middle of the 4th and Brown and the team just crumbled. Then Tatum came back and unfortunately sucked, too

Bron and KD in what is likely their last Olympics as well. Two of the best players in basketball who have played for Team USA in several Olympics and are likely doing their swan song and Tatum was complaining he couldn’t get in over them.

Tatum is probably the most successful player to never seriously contend for an MVP. Heck, I don’t know when the last time a championship was won without best player already being an MVP contender.

It’s sort of like how Nash is probably the worst multiple MVP winner, and he’s the least successful (Malone at least made 2 finals).
