On Monday everyone was hyped about this team. Now we talking about dismantling the team and firing the coach. It’s not even Friday..

That being said, probably two of the most frustrating games I can remember watching. 

We’re Boston fans bro, we’re dramatic as hell. I was ready to blow up the team last night but this morning I’m Celtics in 6!

I have to say, while I’m normally critical of the homers who constantly complain about “doomers” whenever the Celtics are criticized, the Reddit response to last night’s loss has been ridiculous. People saying they hate the team, calling for trades, saying Tatum is a bum. These are the defending champs! And yes, the last two games have been demoralizing. But get a freaking grip. They’re a 60 win team this year. Bad time to hit a shooting slump, but I don’t hate them, I don’t think drastic changes need to be made, and I absolutely still believe they can win this series.

You’d think that these people would learn to trust their team after seeing them dominate the playoffs just one year ago.

I understand they’ve been ass these 2 games, but can we chill with the overreactions? I still believe this team is the best in the East and losing because they’re giving up leads is not something that they haven’t suffered before and learned to overcome.

When I was young my mother used the euphemism, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” I think that mostly applies in this case as well.

Most Cs fans aren’t overblowing what happened, but we just hear the most from the unhinged ones who are losing their grip on reality over a sports game.

It’s a great team, they have played terrible and still had chances to win. They have a great chance to come back in the series; but they need to play together, so many possessions where only one or two guys touch the ball, move and attack, what the hell happened to that?

I’m a Celtics fan in my mid-50s, this team has had some dark days. Competing in the playoffs with hopes of a title are the good times - y’all are incredibly soft and fair weather. Celts in 6 ☘️

I watch all the games with my gramps, we always say in a loss that we are just appreciative of being able to watch basketball together with each other. While winning every single game would be awesome, it’s not realistic. Sometimes in defeat you learn a lot about what you appreciate about winning, and you work to get there. idk lol, I guess people on the internet just want something to be upset about. The year we brought it back against Miami being down 0-3 was so fun to watch. My grandpa and I just hope that the celtics can play less sloppy next game! Go celtics!

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but you cant use the injuries as an excuse when we’re up by 20 in both games. It’s not like we fought super close games and then lost at the end, we literally gave up giant leads in the second half. We were up by 16 in the fourth last night. If we can get up like that, injuries or not, we should be able to sustain the lead at least once and not blow it. Not doom and gloom, I think we can still win if we get both in NY, but this team is concerning from a mental standpoint.

Bruins of the 2010s I can comfortably say were the most choking team in my lifetime. They are lucky they managed to win a cup at all.

100% agree with everything you’ve said!!! These fair weather fans would have had heart attacks during the 80s Celtics playoff runs with many of those series going the whole 5 or 7 games, hell even the great ‘08 team went down to the wire against the Hawks and Cavs…fan base has been spoiled after last years run and it’s about time we face a series like this with the sleepless nights and what not! Last years run was magical in so many ways but especially with how little stress there was watching games as a fan.

It’s ok to be angry with the team for blowing two very winnable games at home to an inferior opponent. Not scoring for 8 minutes in the 4th quarter is inexcusable. Blowing 20 point leads and not making adjustments is unacceptable. This team is better than what they showed in these two 4th quarters and they deserve to be called out for it. I don’t think the series is over by any means but the margin for error is razor thin right now.

What is the point of this post? They’ve played arguably the worst 2 games of the season at the most important time. Does that mean we should go back and talk about how we won the finals last year instead….

Aside from KP the team is banged up not injured. I would say every single team in the playoffs at this point is banged up. But regardless what do injuries have to do with Joe not calling a timeout at the end of the game or making adjustments as we blew another 20 point lead.

I really don’t get the pushback on criticizing our own teams. That pressure the fanbase and media put on the local teams for sure factor into the success. If you dont win in Boston you’re out of a job real quick. I still have faith we can come back but i do think the criticism is warranted

Generally speaking, after a tough loss, Reddit is quite literally the worst place to turn. People are extraordinarily overreactive. It’s like this for fans of most teams by the way, but Boston teams do have the unfortunate reality of everyone else reveling in our failure to comic levels.

The series is not over by any stretch, despite what the internet would have you believe. The fact that these two games were excruciating collapses does not say anything about how the rest of the series will go. As others have mentioned, Tatum put up 35+ in the final three games of the Orlando series and all was well merely three days ago, and it’s not logical to just completely turn on the team now. This isn’t Miami vs Cleveland last series or Memphis against OKC. They need to make some adjustments and trust the process. I honestly feel for the players sometimes given how much utter hysteria there is on the internet

The real issue is 90% of redditors can’t even make a layup, but think they know the ins and outs of basketball. The game is extremely nuanced. JT’s lack of shot making could be an injury, or simply because his balls itch. People read into things far more than they should. It’s easy to read into things as a spectator, but these guys have a little over 20 seconds to decide on a play.

For me, it is the urgency with the setup this team. I do believe the reports that they will start dismantling the team in the offseason and I would like to see one more go of it.

I agree with you on most of your takes as many fans not realizing how good we’ve had it with sports in general. These Celtics are in their own bracket of frustration in this regard.

All Jason Tatum has to do is accept the fact that he isn’t Jordan or Bird. The Tatum isolation crap at the end of games has backfired on us every single year with the exception of last year because Jaylen Brown had monster series in both the Conference finals and Championship series.

The Celtics simply need to keep moving the ball and let the open man take the shot. The Tatum “hero ball / isolation” bullshit just does not work. Think of the 85 /86 Celtics mentality. As Jackie Mac put it: “Death by a thousand paper cuts”. It’s so frustrating that I can’t actually watch the games regardless of the outcome.

I’m looking forward to several more games of Celtics basketball this season. Hopefully even many more! Still love this team, go C’s

I think one thing I can safely say is that KP is gone. Yes, I salute him for trying to come back from injury last finals, but this isn’t worth it. He’s not reliable, not durable, and in the playoffs he has not been great for us either. And he’s the type of center who becomes useless if his scoring isn’t falling. It’s time to get a real defensive anchor who can be counted on.

The thing is this team has already pulled this shit before so that’s what makes it all the more frustrating. Team doesn’t need to be blown up but Joe has to go.

2 years ago we went down 0-3 and lost 4-3 to the heat. This knicks team is nothing compared to that. 2 losses for a combined 4 points? Wow time to blow the team up!!!

For me he issue is I know they can play tough ball cus they did in the first half of both games and im even ok with the knicks comeback. Biggest issue I have is that both the plays to end the game were pathetic. Brown looked like he immediately gave up when bridges went for the ball and Tatum looked like he did not know what to do in the air.

I get that people make mistakes but like Gretzky said you miss 100% the shots you don’t take and we did take one either night. Don’t blow up the team cus that not a good idea and coach is fine just need to keep going with the gameplan if working but be ready to change if not.

So proud of the celts for winning it all in style last year. The nba has a lot of parity and it’s hard to win in a championship in any year. You can’t say that any of the remaining teams aren’t deserving of a trophy. They’re all playing great! If the Celtics can’t win we can root for OKC with coach daignault from Leominster mass! We can’t be mad at the Knicks either. If they won ben stiller and timothee Chalamet would be thrilled. Lighten up and enjoy the ride.

This post would make sense if Knicks won both games by 20. Blowing 20 (twenty) point lead in back to back games is pure stupidity and indolence of both coach and players and has nothing to do with “injuries”. Also this team is on paper far more talented than Knicks and losing to them is more than enough of a reason to fire the coach and get rid of some players

Dismantling the team is too far but we will never be a dynasty with our two Jays if we don’t get a coach who is elite. I shit you not, Joe lucked into the most talented team and got a ring out of it but he cannot bring the best out of this team especially offensively.

I agree with your sentiment but I don’t think we can chalk the Jays’ performance up to injury. Porzingis obviously has something up and Hauser is legit hurt but Tatum was lights out in the last series with the same injury and Brown came into this supposedly feeling the best he had in a while.

But that’s probably a good thing. If the Jays’ poor performances were because of injury, then there wouldn’t be much hope of improvement. But it looks more like the yips, which is fixable in three days. I think they just need to see a few early buckets fall on Saturday and they’ll lock in.

Its not injuries its that streaky shooting. This celtics offense has always had shooting slumps. Even with ime. But joe should’ve called a timeout there last possession. Thats on him. Now one could say if we hit 1 of the last 20 or so shots of the game it doesn’t matter and we win gm 2. As a lifelong boston sports fan of 40 years i def have that feeling of dread……but lfg! Shake it off and keep shooting, only way out of a shooting slump!

Multiple things can be true at once. Yes, we’ve been blessed by this team (and the city) for a while. Yes, the team is pretty banged up and we should acknowledge their grit for playing through that.

However, there’s also no excuse to lose either one of these games, let alone both of them. If they were true offensive and defensive battles that unfortunately slipped away from us in the final moments, it would be a different situation. But we practically had both wins within an arm’s reach and tossed them away.

They have been beat up all season after the long run of winning a title last year. They are not close to 100% and anyone who pretends otherwise just wants to scream and cry.

There’s a reason no defending champion has made it past the second round since 2019.

Playing months longer than nearly everyone else, getting every team’s best in-season, complacency… this year, the Olympics for three starters. It’s a lot to overcome. Maybe the extra day off will help break the string, who knows?

I personally don’t believe this is the typical being down 2 games situation (93% chance of losing the series). If the Knicks were completely dominating in games 1 and 2, I’d say it’s just not our series, but you can literally add 1-2 made shots that did almost go in, and we’d be up 2-0 right now. We’re a banged-up, bruised-up championship team that I truly think will see a game 7 of this series.

Seen so much fire mazulla comments and people claiming last year was a fluke, forgetting that going back to back is one of the toughest things to do in the nba. Especially in the current landscape of the league it’s even fucking harder. That and fuck me we won a chip last year, like last season! And it was awesome, and still remains awesome, fuck the fair weather fans.

It’s just a gut punch reaction. I think most of us (myself included tbf) thought finally winning a ring would get the monkey off this team’s back with these frankly insane mental blocks where they end up losing to inferior teams.

The Knicks have played genuinely terrible basketball for the entire series so far and they would be down 2-0 to any other team remaining in the playoffs, and in no small part due to our best player having the worst playoff series of an all-NBA caliber player since probably 2011 Lebron.

I just watched a 6 minute compilation of Tatum’s most clutch moments. Man the guy is 27 and has already provided us a ring and an endless bank of memories in the biggest moments. This slander I’d expect out of r/nba but not from our own. And it’s not just Tatum anyway - the entire team is looking cooked.

My recollection was that the fan base was not over Tom Brady in 2019. Bill belichick was over him but the fan base was largely claiming that reports of him leaving were false and clickbait. My memory was not of the fan base turning on Tom Brady ever outside of a few outliers.
