Giannis records the first ever 35 point, 15 rebound, 20 assist game.
There’s been 13 instances of a player recording a 35-15-15 game.
Today is the first time we see a player record a 35-15-20 game
Somehow underrated these days
He will always be unless there’s some sort of miracle run and he gets a second title. The Bucks have had atrocious luck with injuries after the title and the new CBA ruined the Bucks cap situation. Plus a lot of bad decisions by the team itself.
NBA is a very narrative driven what have you done for me type of league. When Giannis won his title he was being positioned as sure fire top 10 all time player and since the Bucks haven’t seen the same success since he’s in the rear view for newer toys. It’s just how it goes.
Honestly this is a bit disingenuous. He was on pace for a top 10 trajectory with his first title. But then the circumstances around the league changed and he had some shit luck for 4 seasons and now he may “only” have a top 15 career.
do you people not get tired of talking about how if player x can achieve top y career?
Not all of us had LeBron on our home team lol
It can be exhausting. When LeBron left the Cavs after the 2018 playoffs, part of me felt relief. I would have loved for him to stay with a small market, but more importantly, our team couldn’t take him where he deserved to go then, and he moved on.
He’s also fairly modest for a superstar
Giannis himself has been injured too for every post season except 2022. If he went out in 2021 he could be in Embiid category of injuries derailing post seasons
Jokic and Giannis should team up. The European players are too loyal for their own good sometimes
The new CBA ruins the cap situation for all teams with a guy on a supermax. There’s a reason Denver and Milwaukee both got worse after winning a championship: their star’s supermax kicked in. Brown’s kicked in this year, and Boston will probably lose least one of their key pieces away this off season to cap reasons. At least they won championships. Teams like Minnesota, Houston, Philly, and Phoenix have all struggled to add sufficient talent around guys on supermaxes. Golden State in 2022 are the only team to win a championship while a player has currently been on a supermax, and it took Poole and Wiggins playing like all stars all season.
Giannis with a 20 assist 2 turnover game is definitely something I didn’t see coming
Didn’t watch the game but makes me think that the 76ers were repeatedly over-helping on Giannis?
Nick Nurse
There isn’t a worse star player you can repeatedly send extra help to.
Giannis will gonna get his 30-40 points no matter what. Just put your best tall/physical defender on him, box him out, and play physically. Foul him if you need to.
Giannis will still get his points with this strategy, but he is unlikely to fill in the rest of the box score with rebounds and/or assists like he did tonight.
Build a wall!
It’s not like the 6ers have options lol
Noted Giannis stoppers Lonnie Walker, Ricky Council aka the 4ths. Plus Justin Edwards, the 1st of his name
I love Giannis, a guy that actually loves the game
Idk I feel like he’s still rated 3rd best player at minimum
Love Giannis. 2nd best player in the league by far.
I love him too, but I think it’s fair if some people have him 3rd
Incredulous when someone has that kind of a body.
he is solidly 3rd in mvp voting and was very much alive in the conversation early on in the season before sga/jokic pulled away… do not think he is underrated in the slightest lmao
I can’t. That stat line can’t possibly be under rated. And Giannis isn’t even known as a great passer.
Not known as a great passer to casuals maybe. He’s BEEN great at passing
Sixers were up by like 20 before Giannis was like we are not fucking losing to this team
I appreciate him for that
If you’re a betting man I hope you took it
bucks stayed the favorite the whole time
vegas knew
Bona-Yabu-Grimes is the big 3 philly not needed but deserved
20 assists with 2 turnovers one of them being a backcourt violation lmao
both turnovers were backcourt violations iirc
oh damn I only tuned in the 4th to see what was goin on and I saw that.
yea goated performance regardless from the big man
Probably the only time this has ever happened?
People somehow forget he’s one of the best big man passers/playmakers because of his DPOY level defense and dominance on the offensive end
After Jokic it’s Giannis, Sabonis and Sengun as the next best passing bigs..
Sabonis and Sengun can’t dribble which limits their passing compared to giannis
Let me know if I’m wrong but Sengun seems to have a pretty good handle.
When he’s facing up and doing moves to score at like the mid post.
Not like Giannis who can be a main ball handler and make passes on the fly
Real question here: is Ham a better coach than Doc?
2 NBA cups > 1 NBA cup so…
Neva lost
With his hands in his pockets the players goes harder on them dudes. Salute!
Easily
Yes and it isn’t close.
Raps sub has people that wouldnt trade Scottie for Giannis 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Edit - Im a big Scottie guy, but for Giannis … come on now lol. Done deal
Yeah there one particular Raps fan that goes nuts over anything Giannis positive lol.
I mean, nobody wants him. “Just a run and dunk man.” No worries, no worries, understood, understood. We’ll just have to begrudgingly deal with it!
Renegade gonna comment somewhere that he allowed Bona to score almost 30 points and that this doesn’t count bc the 76ers sent out a combined 4 NBA players
I’ll speak for Raps fans and say I would like Giannis for sure
You’d be an idiot not too lol Top 5 player in the league anyway you slice it
Top three by far.
Just a run and dunk man
Reminds me of the Dwight Howard haters. “He just jumps high. He blocks shots and dunks, that’s all he does.”
all because they got cocky and were rubbing Ujiri’s name in our face thinking it was a done deal.
Yup, they were crossing the T’s, dotting the I’s for sure.
Lol it’s a good thing for you guys, just have to hope GM’s feel the same way (they don’t)
raps fans can be some of the most insane fans out there
I mean, I think every team has some questionable fans incapable of objectivity
There was a while where it felt like Raptors fans were the least liked on social media & it was because of weird fan behavior stuff, not even the team’s success.
Edit:
IIRC, this was right after the Raptors won their chip & a lot of Raps fans just did not know how to act.
A small but outspoken group of Raptors fans started acted with more cockiness than Lakers fans, but because of 1 chip & when everybody knew that the Raps weren’t going to magically be able to swing top talent like the Lakers always do (Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, Luke, etc.)
A failed “act like you’ve been there before” moment. Reminded me of how a lot of Jags fans acted when they made the AFCCG in ~2017, but on a bigger scale.
I hate the Lakers & I’m a Pacers fan, but even I was annoyed for a little bit haha.
I think that could be chalked up to the entirety of Canada suddenly becoming Raptors fans during that run. So many people who didn’t even watch basketball were watching those playoffs. It’s not that hard to see that situation breeding awful takes and insane arrogance considering they never had to suffer through other seasons which might humble them.
Idk man raps fans are pretty bad .
Aint no way you are saying that with a Lakers flair lol
Lakers fans are terrible too? How does that change anything
Cheering Kevin Durant’s injury will always have them in a negative light in my eyes
Bucks fans here remember that one summer in ~2019(?) when Raptors fans were trolling our sub nonstop talking abt how they were trading for Giannis. Just weird behavior
Canada needs another team. Spread out that energy a bit
Without OT, while playing defense
The Giannis way!
Edit: Gotta love the Jokic/Shai fanboys. Really downvote worthy a Bucks fan being excited for Giannis? What do you got to worry about if they’re the “undisputed,” best in the world. I wouldn’t be worried if I was confident in that.
Giannis > Shai
This is common sense obviously but Shai is elite
Doesn’t seem like common sense these days. Shai is great tho agreed
I thinj most people who have Shai as mvp (myself included) acknowledge that that doesn’t mean that he’s a top 2 player
Yeah I’d have to agree, I mean it’s literally in the actual data. I’m a Wizards fan so was looking to see if we had anyone close the other day. (Definitely NOT.)
But Giannis leads the league in Impact rating. Or, I think Jokic maybe tied him, but they’re both ahead of SGA.
Nerds always coming up with a new metric to justify something. Winning is all that matters. An elite player putting up big numbers against a lottery team is what should happen.
okay but what about all the metrics that can be used to show that certain players put up ‘empty’ stats AND their teams don’t win?
Shai leads the league in every respected advanced stat. I have no idea what you’re talking about here
While he does, it still doesn’t equate to an average that nets a pie of 20.6. Giannis, and Jokic it does. Which I don’t think is unfair, since they are the top 3 players in the game.
It also makes sense because they’re bigs. That’s by no means discrediting Shai, because what he’s doing as a guard is elite.
LMAO rebounds are essentially useless when comparing players. This stat is bogus
You’re correct, GA and Jokic are terrible. They say Shai the next Jordon. My bad, not next, Shai is Jordon.
Shaq was saying something like, “end of story.” “You see Shai get a rebound, you better tell him to knock that shit off.” “Let the other team have it, let em lay it in so we can go back and get a bucket.”
The audacity to put those two in the same stratosphere, im in fact outraged.
What in the world are you talking about
Dude you just said rebounds are useless. Shouldn’t an OKC fan appreciate the impact of rebounding more than most?
Rebounds as a team matter. Rebounds for individuals relies almost solely on the team’s defensive plan
I don’t know, what am I supposed to say? Rebounds themselves definitely have a place.
Like im really saying, “because they get more rebounds that makes them better.” They are bigs, of course it’s gotta be factored into their own rating. It’s useless when comparing guard rebounding, to bigs rebounding, of course.
But if you take out their rebounding totals, I guarantee they would get knocked a peg or two for not doing what they’re supposed to do.
was looking to see if we had anyone close
Brother, there are helplines available
True. But Shai is MVP this season
Facts
Until Shai proves it in the playoffs this is a perfectly reasonable take
Shai is still MVP though
Joker
I could list a dozen reasons why he’s not but i’m sure you’ve heard them already and i’m exhausted with the MVP debate myself
We’re at the Agree to disagree point. Both are having all time seasons.
The main reason being “look at the betting odds”
In the absence of past MVP history of these two dudes I think it would be a toss-up though and these final days would matter a lot (like OKC potentially hitting 70 wins or Nuggets landing anywhere between 49 and 52 wins theoretically landing anywhere from 2 to 7)
Note: not saying “SGA is only winning because of voter fatigue”, more saying that it’s not even remotely in doubt because of that tiebreaker
You should look at the betting odds. It’s not even going to be a close race lol
not this season
“Best I can do is 4th best player” - nba rankers
Giannis has a case to still be the best player imo. I would put Jokic and Giannis in a separate tier, idc what anyone else does in the regular season, what kind of MVP seasons they have, whatever, in terms of the impact on both ends, I don’t think I can comfortably put anyone other than Jokic as a “better player” than him. If Luka was healthy and playing like last year, I could put him up there but its been a while since we saw that
Balkan boys
I don’t know where I rank Giannis, 2-3 or 4 but I wouldn’t respect myself if my opinion skewed by every f’ing game. These are best players among best, they are all extraordinary in their unique way. Rankings are comparative, looking at one and saying how can he be x ranked very dumb.
Why is it historic only when Jokic does it though?
I think because people like round numbers and 30 20 20 just sounds nicer than 35 15 20. Jokic himself had plenty of other performances this season that I thought were better than his 30-20-20 overtime game, like his 35-22-17 and 37-18-15 games, but they don’t sound as nice so they just get forgotten.
Just because bro didn’t put the word historic in the title, doesn’t mean it isn’t lol. Calm down
This is the best game by anyone this season. Give this man OT and he puts up 40-20-20.
[deleted]
It took 2 overtime’s and his team lost in part because he smoked a free throw at the end bro. Give Giannis two OT’s and we might have seen the first 50-20-25 game lmao.
I assume the deleted comment you were replying to was instigating, but do we really have to put other players down to lift one player up? Giannis had a spectacular game. Blaming Jokic for that loss or diminishing his performance is simply asinine.
They do but there are diminishing returns. If a game goes to 50 overtimes a lot of players would have stats like 60/10/10.
Funniest part of this is Bona was elite defensively this game
Sure they count but OT should be mentioned when comparing two games where one required OT and where one didn’t.
In double overtime man read the comment lmao
Giannis hits 50/25/25 if this game goes to 2OT
Given that he only had 2 TOs in 39 minutes I don’t think he would have had 4 in 5 minutes in overtime
guess he should get mvp now
When they gave it to Embiid they essentially told Giannis “we will never give you MVP again no matter how well you play.”
Fuck out of here Embiid earned that shit.
If Giannis had Jokic PR team and scorekeeper, he’d be the unanimous best player in the world.
Absolutely not. And that’s not taking anything away from Giannis either, you’re just insane
Nope. You’re just a casual trend follower who easily falls for narratives.
There are respected analysts with a background in playing basketball that support these “narratives” - people like Tim Legler - in addition to just the majority of NBA “super fans”, I’ll call them - including the people that watch a ton of games on here.
They aren’t all “casuals” dude. You just have a fringe opinion on this and you choose to present it as edgily as you can lol
Edit: and the more I think about it, honestly who are you to determine who is a “casual who falls for easy narratives” or however you described it, and who isn’t, especially when it comes to plenty of respected professional analysts who fit under the category you’re condescending to here. W/e lol
If you can’t see that ESPN has an anti-Giannis/Milwaukee bias, then you’re a total blind sheep. This has carried over to social media as well.
Everyone who didn’t vote Giannis for first team all-NBA last year were literally all from ESPN. Most of these so-called analysts and fans online watch Giannis and the Bucks maybe twice a month.
Giannis is better than Jokic. He destroys him when they play each player, and he’s not a traffic cone on defense.
People in this sub were putting him in Tatum playmaking talks lmao
Crazy that giannis can put up this kinda stat line and still won’t win MVP
unfortunately two other players are also currently having historic seasons lmfao
Giannis disrespect continues for another year
how is it disrespecting giannis to admit that jokic and sga are having historic seasons 😭
This season jokic is also a monster and I am a Giannis fan. Shai not so much he is too tier but not here yet at least for me.
Thought he had 17rebs?
He did but had he only had 15 the title would still be correct. 15 being the lower end of the threshold.
Only 2 TOs as well. Dude was on another level tonight
Somehow this is gonna get like 200 upvotes
And it would be 20k if he was on the Lakers
Huge nugs and Joker fan. Not sure why but Giannis definitely doesnt get his flowers like he deserves anymore just because they’ve had some bad luck and unceremonious playoff exits for a few years. This is just as good as Jokics 30-20-20 and maybe better because Giannis passing like that is SCARY
Giannis has played 2 full playoff games since 2022. Thats probably a large piece of it.
Also a lot of the supplementary moves to retool just haven’t worked out. The Khris injury really just killed the post title roster composition. I mean we had to trade him for Kyle Kuzma…
The bucks have had some embarrassing exits and even if not purely related to Giannis, it would be a hit to his reputation
I think the real question is: how has Joker not done this yet?
Without OT mind you. But we all know this won’t get the same praise and attention that it should because it’s not a certain Serbian.
Reminder Jokic had 30-20-20 from an OT game, Giannis could have had 40-20-20 had this game went to OT. One of the most under appreciated players of the modern era.
Yeah, it went into overtime but it was still 45 mins - just 5 more mins than Giannis.
Not taking away from Giannis, incredible game
Not gon lie, never saw a 20 assist game in him
I always thought his playmaking was underrated. But this is beyond even my expectations, and I’ve been talking about his passing for a while
The 76ers announcers mentioned that Giannis might personally be benefitting from Dame being out because other teams think they can put an extra guy on him. They never account for him being able to drive and then kick it out. He is so dominant in the paint that he is routinely pulling 2-4 guys with him whenever he attacks, which leaves nearly everyone else open lol
His previous career high wasn’t that far, was 16
Fun fact would’ve guessed 11
He has almost 40 games with atleast 11 assists, over a dozen since 2024… I wonder why his playmaking is underrated these days, the guy was the Bucks starting PG under Kidd lol, yall need to watch Giannis more
Then you truly don’t know ball
Better than Jokic
I know we kind of suck but I don’t get how Giannis has completely fallen out of the MVP discussion. Half the arguments for either SGA or Jokic could easily apply to Giannis too. Two way excellence, pulling an insane carry jobs, playing at a historic level.
Not saying he should win, but feels weird he’s not even getting mentioned
If you don’t think he should win, why should he be in the convo? Yall coming out and acting like he beat some Goliath tonight. It’s the 6ers and they are tanking. Sheesh
Because it seems strange that an at-worst top 3 player in the league - based on this season alone - is being completely discounted for some reason. Even tho on an individual statistical level he’s up there with both
I’ll bite and give you a real answer.
It has to do with the abysmal start of the season. While okc came out hot. And Jokic was putting up numbers.
By the time the bucks got into rhythm it was too late for him to catch up to the pack. Okc was on historic pace. Jokic was putting up just as good numbers. And giannis just couldn’t catchup.
I think giannis has another mvp in him though.
It’s not meant to be bait, it’s a genuine question. But that’s actually a pretty good answer
Nah I didn’t mean it as bait. I just meant I’ll bite and give you a real answer.
A combination of his poor advanced stats, team record, and voter fatigue
Poor advanced stats? He’s joint top with Jokic for Player Estimate Impact, 10th in assist%, got a TS% similar to Shai’s. The only assists he’s way behind both in are off and def rating, and both of those are hugely influenced by teams.
On an individual level regarding advanced stats, he’s up there with them.
Voter fatigue is true, for sure
This is absurd. You’re using the most stupid advanced stats lol. He’s well below Shai/Jokic is EPM, LEBRON, and DARKO, which have been voted as the most accurate advanced stats by NBA GMs. Player Impact estimate is garbage
Wasn’t meant to be a personal attack on Shai, mind
I’m a vorp and bpm guy myself
Is Giannis the most forgotten and disrespected superstar lately?
Giannis comin for the best player in the world crown again good god
Bro is a beast.
He’s built different
Mmm doesn’t count because he didn’t go to OT with a lottery team to get 3 more rebounds
Giannis needs a team with a bunch of shooters. Send Giannis to GS
It’s gonna be a wild day when someone breaks this by recording the first 36 point, 15 rebound, 20 assist game
If not all the talk for SGAil and Joker he would be right up there in the mvp conversation
If they were a 3 seed it’s a conversation
Giannis Anteponpokic
First ever and get’s no votes. smh.
Giannis has averaged atleast 5.5 assist every year since 2016-2017 with 2017-2018 being the only year since then he’s averaged under 5.
This season he’s averaging 6, and last season was 6.5.
People just don’t really look at his numbers and label him “ run and dunk man ” and don’t watch him actually play the game.
“I don’t get enough credit for these for these 35-15-20 games enough “. - Doc Rivers probably
I was going to point out the 30/20/20 game from Jokic, until I read the 35 points. Man, the stats these players put up is insane.
This is more impressive than Jokic’s 61/10/10 points done in 2 OTs.
First of all, if Jokic’s numbers are adjusted for 48 minutes of play, they become 50/8/8, which is not a triple double.
Secondly, 50 pts + 8 assists might be translated to around 65 to 80 points, whereas 35 points + 20 assists might be translated to around 75 to 90 points (depending on the 3 pointers from those assists).
The above, coupled with the increased rebounds (8 or 10 vs 20) makes Giannis’ triple double a lot more impressive than Jokic’s triple double.
Insane.
extended highlights of his performance:
https://youtu.be/5j3uuj7b7JI?si=pijsnvOUCIoYwMOf
Only a couple guys in history could get twenty assists and ten rebounds. Ridiculous.
Just Giannis things.
Who the fuck was he passing the ball to to get 20 assists, himself?
Team so ass Giannis has to be the pg against the worlds best team
That’s our baby boy! NBA leader in Player Impact Estimate!
Man I love having a star you don’t gotta worry about trade demanding, or of a trade for that matter. Just keep Nico away lol.
I know Giannis isn’t particularly known as a playmaker, I wonder what his assist record was before tonight
Giannis is one of the greatest playmaking forwards in nba history even before today, the guys played a whole season as the Bucks PG under Kidd and is always up there for triple doubles and has double digit assists pretty often especially the last few years. Him keying in on dominating the paint made people forget what his main strengths coming into the league was, playmaking (and transition)
Yeah, goes to show how dumb the “run and dunk” narrative was
Nobody else “runs and dunks”. He’s like the only guy because everyone would if they could. It’s really a compliment.
Fair
16
He had an 11/14/16 in 34 mins against the Spurs last year
Jokic hasn’t done this twice this year already I’m surprised
What I find so unique about basketball is that if you lined up Giannis, Jokic, Curry, Shai, Luka, and the next 5-10 best players in the NBA and had someone pick who you think the best basketball player there is just based on their looks you couldn’t do it most likely. Even if you did it by their numbers you probably wouldn’t be able to figure it out and even if you’re a big fan of basketball, the margin of error isn’t that much larger than someone who knows nothing about the sport and is going by what you know about the game itself and the advantage of being tall. Meanwhile Curry in his prime was most likely better than the two guys on that list capable of a 30/15/20 game. My point though isn’t about whose better - but that idk if there’s another sport where so many different types of body types athletic levels can absolutely dominate - you have a guy like Jokic who needs to warm up to dunk at a basketball camp who is most likely better than Giannis who can run the length of the court in like 6 Dribbles and can jump over a guy on a fast break and can probably touch the top of the backboard on a good day and you have guys who can do all that who are like 10 levels below Jokic like Obi Toppin for example. It’s just so unique to this sport and makes it that much more interesting imo.
He hit his free throws too!
Lmfao where is the post that made fun of posters who rush for karma to post first ever stat lines
20 assists is wild on its own, 35-15 is wild on its own, all together in a single game is insane
He must be 100 percent healthy to put up those historic numbers…AND the playoffs knocking on the door 🚪
2nd best player in the world fr even if he’s not top two for MVP
Doesn’t mean Jack in today’s league. Stupid video game numbers letting players travel like they do now is ridiculous
Didn’t jokic do this? But more rebounds?
Not as many points
he did 35/22/17 against the kings in january i completely forgot
