[Charania] Los Angeles Lakers F Jarred Vanderbilt has been medically cleared to make his season debut on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors on ABC, barring any unforeseen setbacks, sources tell ESPN.
he should be on like a 30 second restriction
he gets one dribble then sit him down and give him a full physical
Go on..
sorry vando is too fragile for that he’s out for the season again
If only he could dribble…
can’t be worse than Gobert
I would prefer he not dribble the ball. or even really touch it outside of wide open dunks.
Lmao
Considering he’d be guarding Curry in an ideal world, his feet are going to last about 5 seconds
How many fouls can one commit in 30 seconds?
TIME TO FIND OUT.
will he remember how to play basketball is the question
Honestly, very few corner 3s and layups is all I need from him, plus some offensive boards. If we trade for some more offensive creation and keep him and Max as our guard stoppers I’ll be happy
Assuming he can make a corner 3 after 1.5 years of not playing having already not been a good shooter is a big leap of faith.
He was beginning to become semi reliable on that particular shot before the injury. Time away from playing doesn’t mean he hasn’t been on his feet and I’d imagine like Embiid did, he’s been working a ton on his shot.
It’s not a guarantee just a decent hope.
obligatory “Vando ain’t KD,” but - KD mentioned during his injury recovery the only thing he could do for a while was get shots up, so that’s all he did for like a year, which is why he came back shooting even better than he was before he went down.
I’m not gonna pretend Vandos all that. Give me the defense rebounding and screening. I’m not gonna pretend he gives us anything that never existed
While NBA defense does rely on some level of talent. A lot of it is is simply effort. LeBron and AD can just yell at you where to go and all you have to do is go there. After that it’s a lot of instincts and effort.
I assume we took so damn long with him that we legit aren’t that worried about him putting in his normal amount of effort.
That doesn’t make any sense. You’re acting like he hasn’t shot a basketball in 18 months lol
He should still be able to make corner 3s, and if anything he should be better at them. Although he hadn’t been participating in full-contact 5v5 until the last few weeks, hes still been doing skill work and shooting drills.
Honestly they don’t even need that. The team looked a lot better last year during the time that he was healthy.
Bro is the least athletic 6’8 dude when it comes to finishing in the rim
Has nothing to do with athleticism, he’s just passive as hell and often hesitates or over complicates a simple lay or dunk. Aggression is key for him
He’s not good at catching the ball either
Agreed. Gobert hands
Lol his biggest asset was his defense, how do you just leave that out
Because it’s known, I’m only talking about the offensive end
lol, I dont think he is gonna magically do the Derek Fisher thing where he suddenly learned how to shoot threes while he was out with a broken foot
It’s fine the re-injury will happen pretty quick that it won’t matter too much
Yea Vando is fragile AF. I love his game but dude stays hurt, which is weird because it’s not like he’s frail looking. Seems like he hits the weights but sometimes you just can’t control how your ligaments and tendons respond
he had multiple screws put into his feet in high school. there’s a ticking clock at all times with him
Damn, why doesn’t somebody take them out?
Ball in hoop ?
In theory, a healthy Vando and Gabe shaking the rust off fills exactly what the Lakers need to be a complete team (POA and perimeter defense)
Is this theory in the room with us right now?
Theoretically
at the very least a concept of one
The Lakers need an offensive creator.
They had 30 assists between Bron Reaves AD and Gabe. But I still agree tbh. Lakers need another ball handler someone better than Gabe
I heard there’s a guy on the nets
who wants to be free
Said it yesterday in that thread, D’lo is our modern day Ricky Davis. Even the playoff stats and drop offs are similar.
Ben Simmons?
vs the Wizards any team can get 30 assists. Lakers need someone better than Reaves as well since he freezes up against good defenses
That too. But I’d surmise they won’t go out and get that unless they think the rest of their roster is sufficiently well rounded. The Lakers FA has said for the past two years they won’t sacrifice their future unless they believe they have a real shot at a title, and there’s no one they could get right now with their assets that make them a contender unless Vando and Vincent bounce back. A defense is as strong as its weakest link; getting two strong defenders back (assuming they aren’t zeroes on offense) probably helps the Lakers more than anyone they can trade for
The front office is overcorrecting for the westbrook trade. They are terrified to make a move like that again that requires taking on a lot of money and using a pick down the road.
No, the Lakers’ FO is correctly assessing that LeBron/ AD as a pairing are cooked. I’m sorry, I love them but they do not have the offensive juice to win a title. And there’s no pathway to getting that creator they need, especially since that player needs to be at least playable defensively. Those dudes are basically superstars lol.
Believe me, I’ve done a bunch of mock trades, and the Lakers just do not have a path to getting the difference maker they need. The best trade I can think of is something like Rui/Vando for Cam Johnson and then JHS for Kessler. But even if you make those trades, your roster looks something like:
Reaves/ Christie/ Johnson/ LeBron/ AD
Vincent/ Knecht/ DFS/ Kessler (Knecht won’t be in a playoff rotation)
Does that actually look like a contender to anyone? And let’s be honest, even factoring in the Lakers being unprotect the ‘27 pick, the Lakers don’t have enough trade compensation for both trades (Vando has negative trade value, in particular). So that’s not even going to be possible.
The Lakers own their ‘26 pick outright, I imagine they are considering trading AD this offseason and doing some LeBron Farewell Tour (or trading him if he wants to compete) as they tank next year.
I agree. They do need some size tho. Jax hayes isn’t good, Koloko looked nice in his minutes but he’s a few years away.
Max Christie is doing fine for PoA defense, though more of course would be better. DFS is still on a minutes restriction, but otherwise seems to slot in nicely as the primary wing defender.
Unfortunately our real problem is behind AD our center lineup is just terrible.
In theory, a healthy Vando and Gabe
A complete play-in team
Currys kryptonite is back, but honestly I’ve never seen someone guard curry as well as Vando
Must be young because Dellavedova clamped him.
For like 1.5 games
Then that mf died and went to the hospital
2015 finals right?
y’all reminding me that Curry’s first MVP season was 10 years ago…
Precisely. Getting old is wild
Nobody has ever guarded harder than Delly on curry in 2015, but he was limited but his mortal flesh.
Gotta go back further and realize Jimmy Patsos is the ultimate Curry clamper
Schröder also guards him well, the truth about guarding Curry is navigating those very legal screens once you manage those which you wont you can bother Curry.
Ja too
Luka’s shaking in his Birkenstocks
keon ellis says hello
Hopefully he can stay healthy from here on out
It be a miracle if he can play even 20 games this season healthy
This guy is a difference maker when healthy.
He won’t be able to stay on the court in the playoffs
Hopefully he feels healthy because there are very few players who’s value is tied to their athleticism more than him.
If he’s anything near the defender he was last time he was on the court, then the Lakers are certainly a better team with him back. Definitely some good news for us Lakers fans
V8 is one of my favorites, and I hope he can thrive in LA
Oh good, the Lakers will need all the help they can get against the two-headed Lindy Waters/Gui Santos juggernaut.
i will be surprised if he makes one shot
Demon home
Damn what was his injury? Dude been out for a damn near 2 seasons
Foot injuries are the worst
Oh word. Those Yao Ming lingering injuries
I do not believe this. I absolutely do not. I foresee setbacks.
Jarred Poorlybilt.
It’s over for the league.
what happened to this guy? ppl used to really like his defense
Clearly the Lakers don’t care about the Chase Center injury curse.
Consider this a warning @nba 😼
I am so disappointed I won’t be able to see his handsome ass dressed cool af on the sidelines anymore. But excited for what he may do for our defense
Out for season within 2 weeks
Can’t wait for the Vando, DFS, Hayes terrorist lineup. Yes he’s a talented defender, but this lakers team is going to suffer offensively even more than they already do when he’s on the court
A couple of games in and we’ll know his value before the trade deadline.
The poor man’s DFS. Wait a minute…
Jarred Vanderbilt was born with paper skin and glass bones
There we go the missing piece to win the championship! -Delusional Laker fans
Cool. GSW is embracing the tank.
Season debut on the bench?
I give him 5 games
NGL the timing of this is pretty hilarious given the reports that came out today. Lebron & AD’s concern = alleviated.
I miss watching Vando
Perfect, just in time to be traded
The Lakers are so back, baby
One thing that’s interesting is how little Vanderbilt has said in the past year. We’ve never heard him say how he’s personally feeling, etc.
Nice
NBA trying their hardest to make Lakers and Warriors rivals with each other.
Wonder how even more cooked his offensive game will be
He could barely make layups before.. I think that trend will continue
Why does he put ABC as if anyone is tuning for Jarred Vanderbilt?
Perhaps because the game is on ABC. I’m not certain, though.
Spoilers: he’s not going to fix the Lakers’ issues.
Fix everything no. Will he help. Yupp he gives rebounding and POA and perimeter defense
Dudes a dog too and we don’t have any of those. Also an underrated passer
He’ll fix our defense forsure, we’re in the bottom 10 in def. rating
That’s insane to me that a team can have AD and give him that little help.
Right and then other Lakers fans get mad at him when he’s not putting up 35-13 nightly, he has to do so much on defense
It seems like has to do everything on defense. It’s sad that LeBron’s gonna hold Davis in purgatory until LeBron retires and Davis’s career is pretty much over.
Yeah, 2020 showed the blueprint to Pelinka the whole season against Dame, Harden, and Jokic in the playoffs and he just fucked it up lmao.
While also killing your offense. Ya’ll have too many guys who play only one side of the ball. It’s like trying to plug a damn with too many holes, something’s always gonna give.
But it’s whack a mole. Fixing your defense while making the offense worse. You guys would be much better playing football and subbing offense for defense.
We saw when Vando came back for a stretch last season, that he was excelling in a 5 out offense. Cutting screening running baseline for putbacks and dunks, even made a few 3s.
Dude averaged like 10/7/4 in like 20 mins. He’s not a 40min a night player. He’s a 20-24 mins a night guy that is energy off the bench
And for us that’s a lot. Our bench is usually
4ppgabe Vincent
Dalton can’t connect shit
Cam redshirt
And domestic abuse Hayes
4ppgabe 😭
Cam redshirt😂
I’m not saying he doesn’t improve the team. He does. But this team is full of one way players. You need a two way player. Otherwise known as a star. Which is crazy because you have 2 Top 10 players already.
Bro can’t even improve his shooting. Not a difference maker
He’s good for the play in game against the Warriors and that’s about it
Lakers fanboys wont admit that this roster is cooked. They cant even give Davis his longtime wish - A 5
r/nba really needs to pick a side. Does our supporting cast suck? Or is Bron and Ad garbage and overrated and old and suck? Both can’t be true or else we’d be the 15th seed
The front office is trash, the team cant play defense, and they cant shoot open 3s.
Don’t act like this team isnt close to being in the play-ins. If either one of Lebron or AD sit, team will most likely lose
Yes but my question forces rnba to realize that one thing I said has to be true.
Uhhh…. A vast majority have admitted that they are an incredibly flawed roster
This game shouldn’t be on tv….
Curry v lebron would be on national tv even if they were 50-60 years old tbh
Everything wrong with the nba in one sentence.
Two legends of the game shouldn’t be on TV??
Two crappy teams playing shouldn’t be on tv… it’s time to move on.
I do not understand why this dude has been hyped up so much by Laker fans. He’s pretty much Matisse Thybulle quality.
A plus defender on this Lakers team is a big deal lol
A plus defender isn’t going to do anything lol
Awful on offence and honestly he’s not that good on defence either.
When he first joined the team he was a great role player and played excellent defense. That’s all we needed and he filled that gap well. We ended up going to the WCF as a play in team, albeit beating a run down Warrior team and exploiting the Grizzlies’ lack of experience.
He’s not a great defender. Never been All-Defence or even really close to earning a spot. And he introduces a TON of problems on offense.
He fills a lot of their holes. He’s great POA defender, rebounds well on both ends, and brings a ton of energy. Many nights the lakers look slow and unathletic, especially if bron isn’t locked in. Vando changes that
Yeah sorry he’s not actually a great defender either.
He is our best perimeter defender, no one is saying he is DPOY, just saying that he is one of the best on this team, which tells you how trash the Lakers perimeter defense is. Austin is getting targeted every night so Vando helps on that end. Also pretty sure you havent seen him play to say and given the fact he can’t stay healthy anyway lol
His effort can be very contagious as well. Great player to have back.
i would like a matisse thybulle on the current lakers squad tbh
Thybulle sucks.
not really he’s a very good defender which is what we need rn
No, a good (not great) defender who introduces a ton of problems on offence is not what the team needs.
As the lone Matisse Thybulle fan, I resent this remark.
That statement is somehow an insult to Matisse and Vando
Because he’s not just a really good defender he’s also a really good rebounder. And our team is lazy on the boards and bereft of perimeter defenders (just got DFS). It’s visible that he injects what our team lacks when he plays
Because he’s been injured. That’s what fans do. The Warriors would still be #1 in the West if Anthony Melton didn’t get hurt according to our sub. Same with Kuminga. Even though we’ve won more without Kuminga. Fans look for excuses.
Everyone always wanna come back against the warriors, this really the lakers championship lmao
Is it though? Don’t lakers pretty much always beat warriors these days
last game without AD as well
[deleted]
Pretty sure he’s mocking our fans bro
Ofcourse it would come from a Boston fan. No one cares abour the Celtics for them to come back against your team
Until you’ve seen kawhi come back multiple times over multiple years just to face your team and then go back on vacation directly afterwards, shut up
