[Haynes] Sources: New Orleans Pelicans-Milwaukee Bucks game tonight will be postponed due to the snow storm in New Orleans. Many roads are closed off and icy.
deandre ayton: vindicated
It was a funny story but I’ll stand by the idea that it is incredibly possible to get totally iced in here in Portland. The combination of hills and freezing rain is quite literally deadly.
That whole thing was just so stupid for anyone that’s got even a mild understanding of winter. You don’t fuck with ice. Snow isn’t a big deal, but ice is extremely dangerous. No amount of 4 wheel drive is going to save you from ice. When it’s icy, you stay the fuck inside and off the roads.
Snow isn’t a big deal, but ice is extremely dangerous.
Yeah, it’s always funny when people like any cold weather is the same as any other.
We summer people just thought there would be some service that a multimillionaire would be able to afford. Idk private snowmobile or something.
The Blazers sent a team up to get him and they couldn’t get to his house.
Snowmobile is not an ice mobile.
i gotta go to work
No amount of 4 wheel drive is going to save you from ice.
I take it winter tyres aren’t a big thing in Portland?
Unless your winter tires have studs, which is illegal in a lot of places, winter tires aren’t helping you on ice.

Okay and in Portland, there are other cars on the road, and you have to make big turns and you have to suddenly stop sometimes. How dense do you have to be to think this video means anything about snow tires in America
I see I see - so all I need to do is load my car down with a few tons of timber and I’m good to go
The only thing this proves is that you are indeed one of the idiots I was talking about… 👍
Yes, PNW ice storms are way more dangerous than snow. I like driving in snow—but I’ve lived through ice storms in Portland where I literally had to crawl two blocks to get to a store. It can be unbelievably slick.
I know multiple people who got injured in that ice storm.
I know some people from there. They don’t salt the roads heavily like they do in other northern states, and people who live in hilly areas do get trapped.
Yeah the rain and hills make it so salt doesn’t really work here. It just washes away
The context for those unaware
like other blazers fans who were here during that storm, it was no joke. i really dont like ayton but if he had any slight amount of slope to his driveway it would have been dangerous to leave, thats how bad it was. i have a 4wd jeep and even i was like fuck that. even if i had chains i dont think i would have tried it last year.

In b4 a redditor jumps in saying “my town with infrastructure set up for this kind of weather is completely fine with temperatures 50 degrees colder than this! This town is a bunch of soft pansies!”
Yeah it’s not that they got “only 3 inches of snow” it’s that the roads with the ice are a death trap
We got 10 inches
But yea you’re right it’s the ice
Sometimes not even the ice. But the half melted slush under the snow from the warm ground.
And driving in those conditions is a skill which most living there very understandably lack. Shoot, we up in the north have to re-learn at the start of every winter; the amount of slide-offs in the first real snow every year is crazy.
It’s so silly to be smug about this - as a guy with a 4x4 who grew up in snow, I’d still stay off the roads down there too. A safe driver surrounded by unsafe drivers is unsafe
it’s more lack of snow tires, lack of four wheel drive vehicles, lack of infrastructure, lack of salter roads, lack of experience. and yes, bad drivers too.
I can drive in 3 inches of snow with the roads unplowed and untreated, but it isn’t fun. Its slow and dangerous with far higher odds than normal of a wreck.
At rush hour when rapid snow happens and rain had washed any salt treatment off, you often get no where on time and end up with multi-hour commutes home because of all the crashes shutting stuff down. And this is in a city where everyone kind of knows snow.
You get home and go fuck that was miserable and painful and stressful with your nerves all shot to hell from the numerous adrenaline spikes and crazy hours of demanding attention.
The worst ever though was driving over a mountain pass when a blizzard hit. Three hours to get to a lower elevation out of it.
Brother we got more than 10 inches and some parts got 12. Also yeah we have zero infrastructure for any type of snow, so this has been pretty wild
My town (Phoenix, Arizona) with infrastructure set up for this kind of weather is completely fine with temperatures 50 degrees colder than this! This town is a bunch of soft pansies!
Once other teams start cancelling things due to heat we’re going to be insufferable
NBA finals in Boston cancelled due to heat wave of 80 degrees.
I was feeling kinda smug in our team sub until I read they got 10 inches. Any town in America would be hit hard by that. A big southern city on the gulf? I bet they can’t even get emergency services around. If anything we should understand how badly this would fuck up a southern city because we see how much money and effort go into snow and ice removal up here.
my town (Hamilton, Ontario) with infrastructure set up for this kind of weather is completely fine with temperatures 50 degrees colder than this! This town is a bunch of soft pansies!
Here in Madison is was -15 the other night, -25 wind chill. This is all due to the polar vortex currently floggin the nation. Climate change causes a weakeing of the jet stream and that allows the polar vortex to come crashing down and that why its been so cold. New Orleans got a FOOT of snow yesterday thanks to the polar vortex, that smashed a century old record. .
And parts of LA burned to the ground the other week. So yeah its climate change, get used to it because our mentally deficient commander in Chief is going to make it even worse. God bless.
How can the planet be on fire if the Florida got snow? /s
It’s not just an infrastructure issue. I’m from their neighbor, Texas… and people DO NOT take care of tires. Those bald, all-season tires on an unsalted or poorly salted road? Insanity.
I lived in an apartment that was right beside a curve and that curve led to a T intersection that led to a little valley in the road. On an icy day, I watched several cars lose it on that curve. And there would always be a large number of cars that needed rescuing from the little valley in the road. I had a front seat to it all.
I HATE these comments so much. And I live in Michigan. It’s like a pissing contest people do where it only makes them look like fools
Not to mention the only way into Smoothie King Center is via driving on the arterial highways that surround it. No public transportation whatsoever nearby.
It takes one accident, even from someone not going to the game, to strand thousands of fans in their car and stuck on the highway.
Atlanta getting an inch or two a few weeks ago and cancelling is ridiculous. New Orleans getting 9 inches of snow is a little more acceptable to cancelling given the infrastructure.
How many plow or salt trucks do you think exist in ATL let alone how many people even understand driving in the snow? 2 inches can be treacherous in the south
An inch of ice is absolutely a major hazard for a city that isn’t equipped to handle it
It wasn’t the snow that made them cancel.
if you were here you wouldnt think it was ridiculous, the roads were awful
Just say you don’t live in the south and have no idea what you’re talking about
Nearly all of Atlanta is ice, not snow.
Even ignoring equipment - Snow in the sun belt is objectively more dangerous than Snow anywhere else in the States because it becomes black ice very, very quickly.

Oh goodie, so my only bucks content today will be spamming F5 praying we don’t get Beal
I would rather we make no moves at all than trade for Beal. Please for the love of god.
Beal is inevitable. Embrace your future.
We’ll take LaVine and maybe Chicago will take Beal + 2 firsts
Honestly that makes so much more sense for beal to accept than going to be scapegoat in Milwaukee instead of phoenix.
If we have to get rid of Khris, I’m praying for this outcome.
That framework makes so much more sense but unfortunately it’s at Beal’s mercy to waive his NTC and it’s unlikely he does that for Chicago. I had this as a mock trade I was working on this morning:
PHX gets: Butler, Richardson
MIA gets: Middleton, Olynyk, Mitchell, 1 FRP from PHX
MIL gets: LaVine, Duarte, Burks
CHI gets: Beal, 1 FRP from PHX, 2031 FRP from MIL
TOR gets: Portis, Connaughton, 1 FRP from PHX
Just think it makes so much more sense than Beal to Milwaukee but it’s dependent on Beal waiving his NTC to go to Chicago. Also whether 2 FRPs is enough for Chicago.
There is another option, do nothing! Unless those teams want picks that badly. Because none of those moves are of consequence.
As a secondary Bucks fan due to living in WI, I would hate this too. Khris is washed, there is no way around that, but taking on Beal as a player and his contract just completely closes the championship window with Giannis. Best path forward is probably to play the season out, wait until the offseason when they will be under the first apron, and retool from there. Middleton will at least be on an expiring contract at that point, so maybe he becomes a more viable trade asset.
I think Beal has more production value than people think, its just the matter of dealing with the second Apron for a guy that isn’t a max salary producer.
17/3/3 is a max salary producer?
Maybe read the comment again a little closer
He is going to produce better than that on a new team I imagine. Still, not the kind of game changing player you expect for 50m. More like a stat filling 24-5-5 guy with average efficiency.
My condolences
This is the front half of a B2B for us so pretty cool
Hope everyone in NOLA stays safe!
Already wrecked my car
Sorry to hear but make sure you throw one some gumbo in this weather
This is how you end up with 3 games in 3 days due to scheduling.
I think it was the Pelicans who had 3 games in 3 days a year or two ago due to make up scheduling.
Might not be able to get out NO to make the next one either.
You’re almost def trading this B2B for some other one in the future.
If the Bucks already are in New Orleans, they should just play the game in an empty stadium. It is all about fan safety really. Give the fans refunds. Though of course, I am being selfish, lol!
Even God is trying to tell them to not trade for Beal
Please stop bringing it up I’m in denial
god really do be petty enough to give us 10” of snow just to tell milwaukee not to trade for bradley beal
Maybe God is trying to get Beal 1 more game with the team.
If I were NOLA I would simply not have snow on the ground, easy
If only the ice on our roads was psychological
Believe in the air pockets between your treads and the pavement, and it will believe in you
Stay safe, New Orleans. Y’all been through enough
The south is not at all setup to deal with snow and ice at that level, it makes perfect sense to delay. That’s a once and a lifetime event
I hope it is. I’ve got 10 inches of snow in my yard right now. This sucks.
Same here but my kids are having the absolute time of their lives which makes it a little easier for me
My kids are grown and gone, but it was pretty funny watching my dog in it. She didn’t know what to make of it.
Is it heavy snow, like kind of wet? Or powdery type snow?
It was powder yesterday, but starting to melt today so it’s getting slushy. The problem is that the temperature is dropping back into the mid 20’s tonight so ice on the roads will be a big problem. Postponing the game was the right thing to do.
It’s not once in a lifetime if we keep seeing this every few years
I mean this literally beat a 100+ year old record, and I haven’t seen even a dusting of snow for like 7 years much less anything like this that would fuck the streets as bad as it has. We’ll see if it becomes more of a norm, but this absolutely was a once in a lifetime event for New Orleans up to now.
For New Orleans sure, but we’ve had like what 2-3 ice freezes in Texas in less than 10 years. So the south has gotten more snow recently.
That I’ll agree with. It certainly isn’t the south like I’m used to. I just wanted to point out how unprecedented this was locally.
Unfortunately, it’s probably not anymore.
A once in our lifetimes so far
its posted on twitter so this is not true. I’m in New Orleans right now and its like 86 degrees and sunny!
Most postponed due to mother nature season ever?
Depends who you ask.
Is Covid Mother Nature? Or mother China
Must be some type of correlation with something
The bucks flew out a day earlier than normal due to the weather and have been stuck in their hotel since then. The roads are too slick to go practice at Tulane and now they are going to struggle getting home in time to play Miami on thursday
I saw New Orleans - Milwaukee Bucks and was expecting a trade and somehow we got Zion.
I remember when something similar happened in Atlanta. The Rockets Hawks game got cancelled as a result
Stay safe everyone and keep warm. I used to live in Toronto so I know what snow feels like. I also understand what feeling cold is like as me and my family survived a major winter storm, survived 10 days without water and 5 days without proper heating, electricity
I do wonder how many big and beautiful plants that took a generation or two to grow are going to be killed or suffer severe dieback from this ultra-cold weather.
Good luck and stay safe everyone in NOLA.
Couldn’t imagine living in a place that rarely gets snow and out of nowhere it’s just coming down. As someone from Michigan it’s expected but I still can’t comprehend it happening in NOLA.
By god man there’s supposed to be a Super Bowl there in a few weeks!
Warm up Nola!
It’ll be in the 60’s this weekend. Can you imagine if this would happen during Super Bowl week? Highly unlikely though.
I saw breaking and Sources and my mind immediately thought trade.
I need some dramatic shit to happen today pls 😭🙏
Kobe would have played
So many postponed games this year; LA fires aside, I don’t recall games really being postponed like this in the past.
After today, New Orleans will have gotten more snow so far this winter than Minneapolis
We’ve also gotten more snow than Anchorage, Alaska and Salt Lake City. My world doesn’t make sense anymore.
Damn
Soft
Im sorry, they are doing what now?
2 ft of snow in Wisconsin 😎
1⁄8 inches snow in Louisiana 😱
It’s about the infrastructure and logistics. You think they have a bunch of snow plows ready and people have snow tires on their cars in New Orleans?
I was making a joke, but the fact you think people would have snow tires for any sort of snowfall is funny in and of itself
Lots of people use winter tires or at least all season tires in areas that get regular snow throughout the winter. It’s pretty normal. But people in New Orleans almost certainly don’t
It was 10 inches, dog. With no road salt, plows, or cars with winter tires.
Its okay. It’s NOLA. No one in NOLA watches basketball
Hey!
Just get Zion back healthy and playing and everyone will get excited again!
Excited for 2 games.
Yeah… but he might windmill dunk during one of them.
Funny coming from a Nuggets fan
… the Nuggets are top 5 in attendance lol
https://www.espn.com/nba/attendance
Attendance figures are flawed, Denver is full of casual basketball fans and those who don’t care about the Nuggets at all
Lmao. More diehard fanbase than the nets… not even close lol
Deflection
Truth hurts baby boy
Soft af. This should be a forfeit by the Pels.
Did you actually have to use a twitter link for this?
omg give it a rest dude
Damn we just postpone NBA games for anything now huh? Postpone for fires, postpone for snow, postpone for ice
You were not gonna watch this game anyways
there was a time zion vs giannis would be a prime time match up
i think the more relevant point to take away from this is that climate change is now regularly causing anomaly weather patterns bad enough to disrupt regular living (i.e. sports games getting canceled because of hurricanes/fires/snowstorms/etc)
post the screenshot, im not clicking on that link
but the tweet in the title tho
absolute chaos for a little snow while I freeze my butt in Toronto at -4°F/-20°C
Number of snow plows, by city:
Toronto- over 800
New Orleans- What’s a snow plow?
No seriously what is a snow plow
Hell we have a “Name a Snow Plow” contest each year up here.
NOLA had another snowstorm like this, in 1895. If this is going to happen every 130 years we need to be prepared. Order those snowplows!
jeez if only weather services had given any warning at all during the last weeks?month? that this was gonna happen. Nobody couldve prepared!
Are you stupid?
He’s a Philly sports fan, cut him some slack
