Gregg Popovich recovering steadily from stroke, continues to guide Spurs from afar
Still keeping Coach Pop in our Prayers.

I’m imagining Pop is sending in feedback during the games through an earpiece and giant computer. Like he’s Bruce from Batman Beyond.
I had him Force Projecting from a secret vineyard that he owns.
I almost criticized somebody at work for their poor performance on an assignment and I heard Pop’s voice through a loud speaker telling me to stop because that’s not who we are
I hear Pop’s voice telling me that Bob Barker is secretly alive and controlling the Federal Reserve via the Freemasons.
If Bob Barker had that kind of influence you’d think there wouldn’t be so many backyard pitbull breeders though
“Somehow, Popovich returned”
I imagine Pop is sending feedback from a 13 inch ThinkPad that is as thick as a phone book and still runs Windows 7. Old man computer, but also a quality machine.
Such an incredible show
Petition to make a Pop robot like this
My dad had a stroke when he was younger than Pop and it took about six months (including two months of inpatient therapy) for him to get back 80% of his physical mobility, and he probably topped out at about 90%.
All strokes are different, but reading the signs (no public appearances) I would guess he’s still working though the initial effects like slurred speech and mobility. Brain injuries like strokes can cause cognitive issues -and interestingly depression- but it gives me hope that he’s still coaching CP and the guys remotely.
You nailed it. I work with stroke patients.
The easy cases are long gone and are back to their normal lives by now.
It’s been months so it’s not a good look. Something is still off for coach pop
He’s an NBA head coach, so even if he’s progressing well, Spurs medical staff is one of the best and tend to be more cautious. RC already has spoken that he’d be back.
RC would never say that unless they really got a okay from the medical staff. Spurs in general are private and conservative in returns, or saying much.
The medical team is probably top notch for basketball injuries but I doubt they have a neurosurgeon on staff or much training on ischemic strokes.
My read is that people say optimistic things when people get a bad diagnosis and it is meant to be encouraging. “He’s strong as an ox, he will be back before we know it”
And they get outside / second opinions. Spurs medical staff isn’t a black box. Shit, in the whole Kawhi situation, they even told him to get additional opinions.
My read is that people say optimistic things
They do, but RC/Spurs don’t usually say anything at all if they think it’s not going well. From a messaging sandpoint, you would not want to say anything if it’s not trending that way. Spurs have some of the best medical staff in business, but they also know who to talk to for the best outside of their specialty. That’s part of being one of the best in the business.
We do not have an elite medical staff for all things. Sports shit? Maybe. Non sports shit? Doubtful.
We don’t, but second opinions are common. Even with Danny Green and Kawhi (and that fun ordeal), they were told to get multiple opinions. It’s not like Spurs medical staff is a black box. Pop of course has a bigger dedicated medical staff for his situation.
Medically speaking, more cautious of what……
I’m curious on what you think
With half a year my stroke patients already know if they can climb the stairs or not by now
We don’t know what his issues are. RC worded it as they expect him back, yesterday.
RC/Spurs don’t say much usually so if they say that, they expect him back at some point this season (as of yesterday). That would be horrible to say if medical staff doesn’t think he’ll be back.
Ya, once you get the monthly “progresing well” updates about a stroke patient that far out from the stroke, you know thery’re probably never going to be back to 100%. I understand they’re keeping everyone optimistic, but for people that have actually been around stroke patients it’s pretty clear his days as an NBA coach are over
My guess is they want to progress to the point that he can come out for the on-court applause he deserves when he retires.
My grandma had a stroke a few months at the end of June and it’s basically the same thing moreso. In almost 7 months since she had it, she’s recovered insanely well for her age given she’s 89 and soon to be 90 in April, but she’s never going to be back to 100%.
Man I don’t even care if he coaches any more. I just want the guy around and healthy since he’s 75 years old now. He is responsible for one of the greatest dynasties in sports, hopefully more than one with Wemby.
76 in a week
Our prayers are with Pop. Hoping for a full recovery for one of the greatest to have ever coached.
It’s either him, Phil Jackson or Red Auerbach to be in the best coach argument. And I think you can have a reasonable argument for any one of them to be #1.
No one else is particularly close I don’t think. Maybe Pat Riley.
Man sending prayers out to him man, phenomenal man above all
I highly doubt he ever returns to the sidelines full time, long term. He’s the oldest coach in history by a few years already, and this was obviously a stoke that left him with mobility, speech, and/or cognition issues.
This man is in such good health, he might coach forever
Damn
THE NIGHT KING
I look forward to they day he can once again smugly tell us how dumb we all are on social issues he just read the wiki on.
Has anyone actually seen him? Is this a weekend with Bernie situation
Check this clown out man
U need to lay off whatever you’re on bro. It’s clearly messing u up.
Privately, yes. Publicly, no. Which suggests he has lingering, obvious effects
