[Highlight] Shaq calls Jokic the “best big man in the league by far” and offers him a belt
Everything Shaq does just sort of feels like he’s smelling his own farts, even when he’s giving credit to someone else. Jokic gets to be in his little club that he’s in charge of, people not in the club are free game to talk shit about.
I just think almost everything he does is disingenuous, even while giving praise, but maybe I’m just turning into a hater.
It kind of reminds me of this one alum from my fraternity in college who kept coming around until he was in his 30s and seemed to live for the moments where people would appreciate his “wisdom.”
He wasn’t wise at all, we just appreciated him buying us beer.
You mean like that dude, Stan Halen?
Reminds me of this interview with Shaq and Donovan Mitchell
Was your friend Neill Degrasse Tyson on Twitter? He’s had some hilarious “wisdom” moments there over the years.
Neil being an LA fire truther was a helluva plot twist
Gross, what did he say?
He was trying to make some inane point about not really knowing - most charitably, in the philosophical sense - the origin of the fire.
Utterly irresponsible JAQing off, when twisted conspiracy theories are laying the blame on the fire at the downtrodden.
I hate that whole smarmy STEMlord shit. There’s often such a basic lack of empathy happening there.
You’re right but it’s not disingenuous, that’s just who Shaq is as a person. Ik someone like that irl and you tend to learn to look past the bad parts and appreciate the compliments, self-masturbatory as they are, for what they are. But it gets rlly grating at times ofc, since that person is also always looking to compliment themselves.
self-masturbatory
If you masturbated someone else, will that count as sex?
this virgin ass question
Spot on.
I used to love Shaq and i thought he was just in his bitter old man phase. But nope i watched his HBO doc and turns out he’s always kind of been an asshole. He self admits he’d do anything for money lol
Shaq always wants to have the punchline.
I think the intention was there then he saw how the studio was chuckling at this belt ideas so he went on air with it.
You can see him holding the laugh because he though he was funny.
Agree with everything you said. And what I find funny is that I can’t think of a person that gives less of a shit about his big man accolades than Jokic.
I think this is definitely hater energy, I’m not saying it with any malice. I get the same way when I spend too much time in one fandom or team.
Probably. I guess I just sort of mirror Shaq’s energy when it comes to Shaq? He’s certainly far from the worst but I feel like once you start noticing it, you can’t unsee it.
Well he did create a fake club and appoint himself president, so yeah, it’s all about him.
He’s legit just a big bully.
Watch his hot ones episode and see how he treats Sean towards the end. That was the last straw for me.
his media people probably told him to embrace some of the bigs he’s been critical of as people have been of Shaq for him doing so. The belt of course has Shaq’s face on it and yes it appears he’s the president of the big man “alliance:” written right on it. hilarious irony and also keeping himself in the loop.
But I would guess Jokic probably does appreciate the public notion.
no you have a point
just a week ago it’s about his mess up hazings.
Yeah Shaq is kind of in a weird spot where he’s top 10 oat himself but has to react to Jokic ascending and even potentially surpassing him real-time on the most famous NBA show in the world. Can’t blame him for feeling a bit unsecure.
Jokic will surpass him when he learns how to defend. Never.
I’d take Joker over Shaq any day. Best big since Hakeem.
Watched prime Shaq and I’ve never seen another big man as dominant since. Joker dominates in a completely different way though. They’re not really comparable imo. Completely different styles of game.
Rooting for a team playing against Prime Shaq just felt absolutely hopeless. There was nothing that could be done.
Shaq was so dominant, teams needed to have huge backup C’s just to be foul merchants. Like expendable assassins lol.
Prime Shaq was:
Beat and even swept by the Jazz
Would have lost to the Kings in 02 if not for the refs rigging game 6
Got beat by a dominant Duncan and the Spurs in 03
Beat in a not so close series to the Pistons in 04.
Prime Shaq wasn’t really this mythological unstoppable god people think of these days…
Bro I will not let revisionist history besmirch Shaq. I was there. I went to those games. I get it, he’s an asshole, but that dude wa fucking crazy. Without question the most physically dominant big of all time, and he wasn’t never even fully in shape. Even older people around me who’ve watched ball since the 70s said they’ve never seen anyone like Shaq, from a dominating perspective
Jokic dominates for sure, and his a monster in his own right. Probably a top 15-20 player already. But as a Cavs fan with no skin in the game, Shaq was 1000% a mythical monster that couldn’t be truly guarded by one individual
Your only defense was sending him to the free throw line
Jazz series - not prime Shaq
Kings in 02 - coulda woulda shoulda (tho the reffing was bad yea). But it’s a “what-if”
04 Lakers were completely exhausted and done with each other
03 is the best point. Speaks to the all time greatness of Duncan.
So 02 was coulda woulda shoulda and it’s not a valid thing to use but you use EXHAUSTION as an excuse for 04?? C’mon
Did the team not famously and spectacularly break up immediately following 04? Lol.
My point is that if all that counts is that the Lakers won and Kings lost in 02, then the same logic should apply to 04.
That team ended up having 2 top 10 players all time in the eyes of most people, so I’m not having it personally.
Would’ve lost to go the Wolves if Cassell didn’t big balls dance.
As someone who loved Reggie Miller, Allen Iverson, the early 2000s Kings and of course the 2002 Nets, I can’t stress how true this was.
Dude has no peers in that three year period come playoff time.
Well, there was
But then you’d have to deal with Kobe
See: Spurs
Watched prime Shaq and I’ve never seen another big man as dominant since
I’m not sure how Shaq would fare in a league where fouls can be reviewed and upgrade to flagrant 1⁄2
hakeem is so under appreciated. he’s my favorite center of all time
Shaq might have the highest peak of anyone outside of MJ and LeBron. Joker is nuts too, but I don’t think you realize how comically good Shaq was
I remember watching him in 2000 and just laughing out loud at how unstoppable he was in the paint. Like you say, it was comical. Just absurd.
Joker would also be less likely to shit on your belongings. Double-win
I wish I could have watched Hakeem play.
You still can. There’s some games you can find on YouTube
That ordering is all over the place
Shaq is so weird
Wait a second…. That’s a belt with Shaq on it flexing! How is that a gift for Jokic?
Because he’s got G-14 classification and is the president of the big-man alliance.
Jok should be honoured
Just another way for the smallest biggest player Shaq to gatekeep other players
Who is better than Jokic?
I’ll wait.
Lavar ball
Lamillo Bell
A lot of negative comments here so let me just say that it made me smile, watching Jokic A) have to look on the tiny monitor to see what Shaq is holding, and B) cracking up at his childhood basketball hero making this gesture on his behalf.
Who else is in that alliance anyways? Can’t think of many big men Shaq’s ego would allow to consider to be worthy anyways
Jokic is better than shaq lol. Shaq got carried by Kobe
Lame
Chairman of the “Big Man Alliance”? He really thought Jokic gives a shit about this or this bloody belt?
Lighten up, it’ll be good for you
