[sfchronicle] Monday’s 40-point loss to the Boston Celtics at Chase Center showed how far the Golden State Warriors have fallen since their torrid start to this NBA season.
I get the feeling that whoever wrote this article doesn’t know what torrid means lmao.
They started 14-3, probably used the word in reference to that start.
But that’s really good. 14-3 is a great record, definitely the opposite of torrid.
Edit: my Asian education is showing. I’d been taught growing up that torrid means poor or difficult. Never knew it had another definition here.
Torrid means hot
Til, never knew that. I’d always known it to be a synonym for difficult.
I think it has a different meaning in England, if that’s where you’re from
It’s more like torrid can be used to describe things, some of which are difficult and some of which are other things. You can have a torrid affair, have torrid thoughts about someone, if your team is losing then you might say they’re having a torrid time on the court, etc.
So you’re not wrong per se.
Torrid means hot, the article is just saying they started off on fire.
Etymology always interests me. Words are defined by users, and this changes from time to time and location to location. Personally I’ve never heard torrid mean bad, but I rarely hear it. The two places I do hear it are torrid love affairs (thanks to forensic files) and torrid paces. (Sports). In both cases I believe it means rapidly starting, all consuming and often unsustainable. It’s been a few decades since I’ve heard it relating to weather (hot).
Seems like after KD the Dubs haven’t added any stars to help Curry. Feels like they’re too stubborn to change their process and are trying to regain the lightning in a bottle of a team construction they had in 2016.
Honestly don’t see any of their current players to breakout.
I wonder if they could’ve gotten someone better than cp3 for Poole. Relying on Wiggins obviously wasn’t a great idea either.
While Golden State has clearly had their struggles this season, I’d hardly put any stock in that one game as they were missing some players. Not saying they would have won, but it wouldn’t have been that type of blowout if they were at full health.
Idk, the Celtics have handed the Warrior some pretty brutal losses before and recently as well.
I don’t understand your point in relation to my post. We’re discussing this season’s Warriors. To further my point they’ve already beaten us, in Boston no less, 118-112, when they were healthier. Did you mean to reply to a different post?
No, I was juat pointing out that the Celtics have handed the Warriors the majority of their historic losses and with generally the same core of players so my point is that I think the Celrics would still run them over despite your points. Just having conversation is all.
I agre with you, but that 118-112 was a healthy warriors vs Celtics without KP and JB
They’re a play-in team, just like last year. And losing by 40 on their home court I think brings the message of true mediocrity into focus for some. Their season started well mostly because of an easy schedule and some unusually good shooting. Basically, they’re on a road to nowhere, and I love it.
We just agreed NOT to link X posts.. have some decency you monsters
I was triggered when I saw it😡😡😡
You hate to see Steph and Steve Kerr lose like this.
And Draymond.
Don’t any of you dare mocking them with Steph’s sleep celebration.
