No matter how mid this team has looked for months it’s much more bearable knowing they at least got Al a championship
Disagree. Al needs two. End his career like it started in college.
I think the Celtics are finding out the hard way it’s really really fuckin hard to win 2. Even the Durant Warriors, the greatest team of all time, struggled on their quest to repeat and they would not have repeated if CP3 didn’t blow out his hamstring in the conference finals. Knowing that’s the expected difficulty makes the celtics’ recent mediocrity way more acceptable. There’s still teams out there with zero championships in 30+ years of existence
The Rockets got the Warriors to 7 and it took 27 missed 3’s to allow the repeat.
Ray Allen hit the game tying 3 that allowed the Heat to go to a game 7 and win in 2013
The Lakers in 2010 beat the Celtics because Perkins was injured and we got out-rebounded like crazy and it was still close down to the end.
It is insanely hard to repeat and needs a little luck. The last team that went mostly unchallenged on their way to a 2nd title was the 01 Lakers.
It would be a MASSIVE accomplishment to win again this year, favorite or not.
We root for a team that’s won 18 rings, but haven’t won back to back since the 60s: it’s fucking hard AF to repeat
The way this team is shooting, we might break Houston’s record and miss 28 3s in a game 7
It is insanely hard to repeat and needs a little luck.
We got the luck last year. This year we gotta 1-2 legitimately great teams.
Glad someone else realizes this
Yeah, I’m not going to say that I don’t care, but finally having it all come together last year is a huge difference maker.
Tatum is still 26. Even if this iteration of the team breaks up sooner rather than later, we’ll still have plenty of time to compete down the road.
It’s hard to win a championship and we got one. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll only get one, but I’m so happy we did
Was having a bad day, seeing Big Al with the title instantly made it better
Just need the Smart comeback in bench role + ring in 2027 now
Just the thought of that brings a tear to my eye
Yeahh man i’m not trippin over this year. Whatever happens happens, banner 18 was the mission and mission was accomplished. Idk why the fanbase wants to be stressed out every year lol
I just assume it’s a generation of Patriots fans who grew up expecting the team to win the Super Bowl every season. Now that team sucks so they latch onto another Boston team and expect the same thing.
Y’all are wild. We are the defending champs and one of the most talented teams in the league. Yes, titletown wants back to back chips. Any season for the last 5 years and I’d be pissed about how this team is playing right now.
Right? When did it become a bad thing to want your team to win every game and championship they compete for?
His career trajectory has been insane and it’s so satisfying knowing he won a title with us after all he’s been through with this franchise. The fact that he did it as a “38 year-old starter is incredible.
3rd best record in the league is mid? Lmao I get we haven’t looked great, and I’ve been at some of the disappointing home losses, but I don’t think mid is an objective assessment. They’ll figure it out come playoffs
They may look “mid” but we’ll have to see how the playoffs go. This team still has that juice, I think.
Rings don’t grow on trees. I’ll always be grateful for last season.
We’ll get him another one this June. Playoffs is when things matter.
I’m really sick of people saying regular season doesn’t matter. It does matter!
You have to win these games in order to get to the playoffs and I truly believe in the Phil Jackson 40:20 rule.
I am far from a doomer but we have to be realistic here. They are on pace to losing 20 games before winning 40.
I am feeling concerned by their collective lack of focus.
We’re on pace to get 40 before 20
If we are playing the math game we are not.
For Celtics sake and our beloved Celtics fanbase I hope you’re right and I’m wrong.
Depends on what math game you’re playing? They’re at a .69 win rate for the season rn. That means they would get the 11 wins needed to hit 40 in 16 games. That’s 5 losses so 18 total.
It matters but do you know what matters more? The body of work that this organization has put forward - top down from the front office, to the coaching staff, to the players. They’ve been winning at a high level for years and we are ~7 months removed from the same roster winning the championship in a landslide. I am going to trust the organization that they’ll bring it in the playoffs.
Have you ever managed a team? All teams go through forming, storming, norming, and eventually performing if they’re managed well. Sometimes it takes a few cycles of storming, norming, storming, norming to get to performing.
I’d rather they go through some storming mid-season to work out the kinks than never go through it at all. Getting past storming is often what leads to performing.
and we’re still in second place
We are mid yet still third in the entire league in best record. If this is sleepwalking to the playoffs I will take it.
Come on folks why are some of you throwing in the towel? We are not even on the midway point. Relax this is not a sprint is a marathon and we are doing ok. You can take off like a rocket only to crash in the playoffs so pace yourself and stay healthy for the playoffs. This team has what it needs to win it all again . So yea seeing Big Al win one made me more proud to be a Celtics fan and a Dominican American.
Fr, it hurt when he left for philly knowing we never got there
Y’all really getting all doom and gloom over a January slump, relax guys
The championship was great and I loved every second of that but that’s in the past. Right now we have the 3rd best record and the most playoff experienced and accomplishment in the league. Most importantly no one is injured right now. Things are good.
Anyone else see that Kessler mock trade? Sort of feel like one, maybe two FRPs if needed is worth it if it means we get two more shots with this group with Kessler backing up / providing insurance for Al
Winning makes losing easier. Kinda.
I think the Celtics are just playing dumb and the rim is spitting out shots they usually make
NBA is the deepest it’s ever been. If they just make the finals again, that’s impressive, let alone win it.
Always makes me happy that Big AL got a ring 👏🏻especially after he left the Celtics for Philly that shit broke my heart tbh
If we didn’t win last year I’d be stressing out so much right now.
Sure I still get pissed off and annoyed at shit play and stupid losses, but I’m still happy I got to witness another Celtics championship, even if it took 16 years to get there.
It’s tough enough going through nearly 2 decades of playoff exits and losses and embarrassments, while your friends who are Lebron fans, Warriors fans, or Lakers fans (especially annoying) got to gloat and celebrate at my expense multiple times lmao.
But I’d rather we get Al two, and we all know Al wants two at this point.
Mid?
Thank you for this.
I was getting worked up about the team again, which, as a fan I guess is what happens. I don’t get worked up about things I don’t care about.
Now I’m just thinking about when Giannis dunked on Al, and Al was like “OK… OK…, that’s how it’s gonna be” and then came back and dunked on him even harder.
Which is why they shouldn’t feel bad about using his salary in a trade at the deadline, if brad feels there’s a move out there that makes them better
Looked mid for months? The Celtics were 21-5 as of 1 month ago.
perspective matters
That’s why I’m not worried about this team not repeating. Horford’s ring is enough for now.
Remember to keep things in perspective before you lose sleep over regular season games.
This makes my soul happy.
They will be fine. It’s just a rough stretch
I’m more relaxed this season because we just won. Any struggles or whatever, just aren’t that big in my eyes cause we got a chip. That said, it would be really, really fucken cool to get Al b2b chips & then he rides out into retirement. Gangsta shit.
Damn yall already giving up on the repeat, fans soft as they say the Celtics are
Months?
Can’t think of someone more deserving!
Amen! Wish we got Blake one even if he didn’t spend as much time with the team. Incredible vibes from the guy.
I think the critical error may have been bringing back the exact same team. The NBA makes this really hard because you can’t just easily swap players that aren’t yours but you need to bring in some hungry energy to keep everyone on their toes and they just don’t have it.
The critical error is probably expecting last year’s shooting success to just carry over. They were 2nd in 3 point shooting percentage and 1st in attempts per game. That’s some absurd shooting accuracy and volume there was no way that was gonna be sustainable with the same exact team coming back and other teams having whole offseasons to come up with ways to shut the Celtics’ shooting down. Not to mention main rotation players like Jrue, Horford, Derrick becoming older in their 30s
This Celtics team is completely gassed, they need and will probably get a longer offseason then normal.
