The Celtics have made big, drastic changes to the roster every offseason since the Nets trade. Until this offseason when the roster seem pretty locked in.

Just because it happened every year doesn’t mean it happens this year.

I see them trying to move Springer for salary relief, but that’s the only change I bet we see.

This is what others doesn’t get. They talk about the team as though the championship window is a 5+ season thing, when in fact the bill comes due next season!!

On a side note, it’s why everyone acting as if this season’s struggles don’t matter is driving me crazy. The window is incredibly small and you have to maximize and take advantage of the opportunity now.

Unfortunately, I’m just a redditor, I have, and never claimed to have, an expertise in the field of being an NBA General Manager, so what I think they can do is irrelevant. That said a multibillion dollar organization like the Celtics thankfully hired a General Manager/Head Of Baseball Operations to make the difficult decisions to improve the team. It’s their job to make the moves they can make. I only point out that the window to take advantage of their opportunity is far smaller than the fanbase is acknowledging.

Sometimes, the best move is not to do anything. Especially with new CBA rules and being a 2nd Apron team, the amount of significant moves this team can make to improve the roster is minimal anyway - not without gutting the current depth/roster for unproven pieces.

I don’t entirely disagree with your point, either. If that is their best move for this season, then so be it, but I’d hate for it to not be the best move for this season, but rather be the best move for either the sale of the team (to make the team more attractive to sell financially), or for the long term ramifications of the cap/apron instead.

I have to trust Brad, but I’d be lying if I said that this seasons team inspires confidence.

Danny likes to win so Brad would be giving up a whole lot more the springer and 1 first round pick. More like two first and a 2nd plus springer taking Springer is a favor. Danny and Brad were just together couple weeks ago at a duke game..something I don’t remember but they were together And the Conversations been had.

The only way we do this is if Kristaps is cooked. We don’t need Kessler to play Luke Kornet minutes. We already have Queta and Tillman waiting. We need to save draft capital for when we inevitably trade Kristaps (if washed), Jrue or replace Horford.

I agree 100%. This is the part fans don’t understand and haven’t understood for years.

You don’t give up major assets to trade for another team’s starting center, only to make him your 3rd center, without considering how that will impact the players currents playing that position.

Even in a contract year, I could see Luke being willing to be a good soldier, having shown enough on tape for other teams this offseason. Queta would throw a fucking fit. So sure, we can trade for Kessler, as long as Queta is included in the deal. And we only give up one first, which is unluckily when dealing with Ainge.

Kessler has DPOY potential. We’re not getting him for cheap. He’s also the anti-Luke on offense (he’s ass/always in the way and can’t do anything but awkwardly rim run).

It’s a trade that works well on paper but maybe not as well in practice. We’ll see. I still think making a move for a big, disruptive wing (either via trade or on the scrap heap) would be the better move for the team.

Kolek for Kessler isn’t possible straight up, based on the Spotrac trade machine. It puts the Knicks over the 2nd apron, so I’m not sure what else would be required on their end. Also, that 2026 pick swap isn’t good. Not a chance Utah finishes ahead in the standings than NY next year.

Also (bias included), Springer is a much more enticing prospect who was a first round pick, younger, and been in the league longer than Kolek. But yeah, Knicks do have a ton of seconds they could just throw at Ainge. Feels like we’d have to give up at least two 1sts if we want to make a Kessler trade happen.

Agree on springer, he’s had very few moments where he seems like someone who can help a team.

Still not positive I’ve ever seen him willingly pass despite being a mediocre dribbler and shooter.

Springer had that one nice setup for Queta at the end of the Orlando game.

Other than that he seems to really just barrel into the paint, attempt to play off two feet (when it’s off one my god it’s ugly), get fouled and split the free throws.

He’s the Ojeleye of guards.

I mean…when he plays 6 minutes a month on the team, I guess the philosophy is that he’s better off just trying to score. I never get a good sense of him because both teams are just jogging up and down the court every time he is in (which is always a 23-point game in the final minutes) and they never tell him to be a hound on defense. I’m guessing, since the team is both struggling and exhausted and he is never subbed in, that he is terrible. But I can’t really judge anything from him–at least Tillman got the opportunity to play himself off of the court with a couple of horrible starts.

I’ve seen Kessler as a name floated around and I think Danny would make a deal with the C’s for the right price. As we saw last night, our bigs aren’t great and if Porzingis goes down, we are in real trouble. I think this would solidify the C’s as a complete roster.

This would actually be great. He can defend and brings a ton of energy off the bench. With as low energy as we’ve been lately this could be the shot in the arm we need. Also he makes pretty good decisions off the ball.

The Celtics are \(7.6 million past the 2nd apron right now, and projected to be \)19 million past that threshold next season even with Horford, Kornet and Springer coming off the books.

The Celtics can hope they replenish talent with late firsts and minimum signings. They could trade from the rotation, but that’s robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The best asset they can get is a proven talent on a rookie contract. That minimizes the salary they send out now and gives them Bird rights to re-sign the player at market value.

So, yes, I think Kessler’s the target. Springer and two firsts seems like the minimum to make that move. It’s worthwhile to me because they lock down the pivot between Porzingis and Kessler. Couple that with the Jays and some combination of White, Holiday and Pritchard, and they’re in good shape this year and going forward. In the offseason they can decide if they’re going to move one of the guards for pick/s, or even Porzingis.

The team is in a pretty sweet spot now, and if we can get through the rest of this season without making any roster moves, the Celtics have a good opportunity to win another championship. If cap dictates some thinning, Springer, Peterson and Tillman are expendable. Of those, the one to keep for the future is obviously Springer if possible. Big Al is aging out, but is still a strong presence. It is difficult to not like KP, but we won without him last year, and it seems like when he is in and having a good game, it is at the expense of either JT or JB. If cap is a huge issue, KP is the biggest ticket item that we can spare. Sort of. As long as we have Prichard and White, along with Holiday, We are in fine shape for guards. Al, Hauser and Queda sub as either center or forward, which only leaves a discussion about who starts at center. I think Luke is under valued, he hustles and increases the value of his teammates, even more so than KP in my opinion.
