NEXT DAY THREAD: The Celtics collapse late yet again
I am trying to come up with funny and cool titles for this but I truly can’t currently.
Hauser blowing the dunk, jrue passing out the layup, jaylen forcing a missed layup on 2 or 3 defenders instead of passing to jrue in the corner are the key plays I remember before turning the game off.
You missed Tatum clanging a key free throw with the game on the line
And why does Tatum automatically get the tech free throws when there are better foul shooters in the game?
I think it’s Joe just tryna get him in the right headspace, but I honestly can’t stand to watch Tatum shoot any important free throws.
Remember when he did it vs New Orleans just a week ago? Missing both with the game on the line? Down to 79% on the season.
We don’t talk about that around here
Jb doing dumb shit has been consistently one of the main reasons for us not being as good as we should be all year. There is no reason on earth literally ever for any single game in an entire season for Jaylen brown to take 27 shots while jt takes 21. Regardless of whether or not jb made a couple in a row or jt’s having a rough game or whatever your superstar offensive player who can score from anywhere HAS to be your go-to guy when you need a bucket, because otherwise shit like this happens. But ESPECIALLY if jt and jb have the same points while jt has taken 6 less shots, then you absolutely 100% need to rely on jt down the stretch instead of letting draymond jr chuck up some bullshit like he’s Kobe every time down the floor. Jaylen brown has never been particularly good at creating offense or even making shots for himself individually, his only consistent move is blowing by defenders 1-on-1 but when help comes he just ignores it and puts up the shot anyways. Everything else he’s best spotting up and cutting off ball and letting the 6’8 point forward top playmaker in the league guy who’s entire job it is to make his life easier, do what he’s supposed to do. JB got his little (undeserved but that’s a different conversation) fmvp nod and decided that he’s now the face of the Celtics and fuck jt and everyone else, and now we’re seeing what a Jaylen Brown led team looks like. Which to me is a whole heck of a lot worse than a JT led team.
JB playing stupidball and not being able to dribble for long stretches in the season is an annual occurrence. Sometimes you get Finals MVP Jaylen and sometimes you get 2023 Conference finals Jaylen he’s a human slot machine with little consistency. Need to just accept it’s gonna happen every year and everyone else needs to step up but they’re not
We really haven’t seen much FMVP Jaylen this year. He used to break off 30+ point games with regularity
I don’t think JB taking more shots than JT is inherently bad, he’s just been ass recently. And Tatum missed all but like one shot in clutch time last game.
EVERYONE missing easy shots at the basket.
We are 13-10 since December 1st. Brutal.
I’m a doomer. Not sure if I should be concerned since they are looking like the 22-23 Celtics or give credit to the Hawks since they did beat the Cavs twice this season.
Also 2-0 againts NY, 6-1 againts top 3 seeds crazy ngl
Then 18-18 against the rest lol. We’re both sort of stuck in a .500 boat
The fact that they wanted to get the number 1 draft pick is still wild, Once that French dude becomes more consistent with his shot it’s game over lol
We always find new ways to lose to the Hawks. It’s always the little things like turnovers or not rebounding when it matters most. They out-hustle/effort us every time.
We simply do not put together consistent efforts against Southeast teams
Yea I think this team is clearly still a contender, has another level to go to, and can get it together.
Honestly my biggest disappointment this year with them is that although I know all that, it’s just not been good basketball to watch. I have little motivation to actually check into games because I know they’ll probably half ass it and goof most of the time.
Already winning a chip also plays into that, and that probably speaks to how the players feel if a fan like me feels it too.
Its time to accept that it’s likely 2024 was an aberration shooting year and it’s back to business as usual for the Celtics. Celtics are usually in the low to mid 50s win seasons and 64 is probably an outlier. If you see 2024 as a special season and 2025 as a return to normalcy you’ll be less pissed off watching these terrible performances. Most championship years are aberration seasons just look at denver and milwaukee and 2022 Dubs they’ve never been as good as they were since they won it all. This Celtics team isn’t on the KD Warriors’ level and they shouldn’t be expected to perform at that level when nobody on the team is on the level of 2018 KD or Curry
If JT can maximize playing the high post he can be so effective unlike dribbling and shooting bricks from three.
If only he took more than 20 shots the entire game. It’s insane to me how Joe doesn’t see the usage problem when we lose every game jt doesn’t get involved enough and dominate every game he runs shit. Just look at the difference in his usage against Orlando (where his matchups were much more difficult and he should have had lower usage if there ever were a game for him to) and Atlanta (where he’s matched up against nobodies all game and should just be allowed to cook all game. It’s kind of painful to watch just how fucked up joe can make us look all under the guise of “developing” our younger players (who can’t develop cuz JB just takes all their shots whenever jt takes a step back)
I have been predicting a run from late January to mid March. Starts next game! ^PLEASE
Of all the boneheaded plays by Jrue last night - does anyone even remember the layup he missed from the dunker’s spot? He was just standing there under the basket. I think it was in the 2nd quarter.
I miss the feeling I had after the Celtics wiped the floor with the new look knicks opening night
this team is unserious right now
2 on 1 fastbreaks involving Pritchard (or 3 on 1s) have become a real problem. It’s wild how they continue to figure out new ways to not score on those plays.
Pritchard is great but he is genuinely one of the worst fastbreak players I’ve ever seen, when he gets the ball in transition I just pray lol
I mean on one hand I get why the team plays with so little effort. They are still the 2nd seed and will most likely stay that way till the end of the season as the cavs are too difficult to catch and the Knicks will likely also not catch us.
But it’s a dangerous mentality to think that this team can suddenly flip a switch and just dominate everybody in the playoffs.
There is no switch. It’s a way to cope with the poor basketball the team is playing right now. The only year we won the championship was when we steamrolled the league and you barely ever heard people say “they’re going to flip a switch come postseason”. Every year we see a ton of that same phrase, we haven’t won.
Fwiw, tons of people (including Celtics fans) expected the opposite - that our level of play would fall off once we faced true opposition. It didn’t.
I don’t think it’s coping to say that our guys aren’t getting up for games in January this year after winning the title and competing in the Olympics. These are the dead days of the season, and I’d much rather the energy be peaking in late March/April than worrying about steamrolling everyone every game.
That said, we’re playing like shit. I’m happy with our record and our net rating, and I’m optimistic about this team in the playoffs, but we are playing like shit. Can’t wait to start winning games we should be winning more easily.
Call it what it is. They are an average team at best since December.
Does anyone know why Kornet did not play the 4th/OT?
I appreciate Queta and his effort, nonetheless, he was making mishaps towards the end of the stretch. We needed a difference maker and unless Kornet was hurt, Joe should have put him back on the court.
I think the consensus is “no, there’s no basketball-related reason.” Made absolutely no sense from any standpoint in which they were trying to win the game.
So we’re left with a) Mazzulla doesn’t care about wins and losses at all right now and just wanted to test Queta for some learning experience, b) the “book” says to have the more athletic player in there in terms of perimieter switching and rebounds, and it didn’t matter that Queta couldn’t do either one, or c) Joe is passive-aggressively responding to criticisms of him “not playing Queta enough.” (Or Kornet was hurt and we haven’t been told this.)
Make it stop please
The only cope I have is that we lost in OT in the second day of a back to back, but man, that 4th quarter was just soul crushing to watch
This is why the Walker Kessler stuff got traction even if it’s purely speculative and made up. We’ve got about half the season to go and there will be games where we play without one or both of Al and Porzingis. I know we’re not exactly deep in the wing but center is where we’re more likely to need depth help. Not to mention toughness on the boards.
If Jrue didn’t foul in the last 7 sec we would’ve won.
Am I crazy for still not being phased? Yes these are a lot of losses and bad ones at that. But we have the chip and will end this year as a top 3 seed. I’d like to be better, but part of being a fan is having faith and I watched this team dominate last year. Yes, the championship hangover is real. But we know what this team is capable of. Let’s just stop making bonehead plays please
Most Celtics fans are chilling. We’re def not the clear best team in the league like last year, but no point bitching about it in fucking January lol.
Only the Cavs and Thunder look convincingly better, and both teams have way less playoff experience than the Celtics.
I didn’t have a chance to watch the game; I followed play-by-play late fourth quarter and late overtime. The Hawks’ bonus screwed us over because we got too many fouls
Celtics in the last 8 games: WLWLWLWL. Has anyone ever successfully completed a 10-game WLWL pattern in the modern NBA? Two games more LFG
The only way to win is Gino Time! 😁
I am truly sick of people saying regular season doesn’t matter. It does matter!
You have to win these games in order to get to the playoffs and I truly believe in the Phil Jackson 40:20 rule.
I am far from a doomer but we have to be realistic here. They are on pace to losing 20 games before winning 40.
I am feeling concerned by their collective lack of focus.
