Why doesn’t the crowd wear the free shirts anymore?
We barely even get free shirts anymore. Game 1s usually get them and then its cheap green terry towels or something. Kinda sad tbh.
We definitely get free shirts - they’re just oversized and I’d rather wear my jersey lol
Same, I’m a woman’s medium, and those shirts are like a XXXL. They are my pj’s. I understand wanting a size that could fit most folks, but a better process would be people handing them out at the seat entrance with a few size variations.
Now the game posters they give out…I’ve legit had a worker tell me they’re hard to track down and are hit or miss where they are located by the stairs.
The t shirt variation is tricky to work out logistically but really wish they’d invest in it.. I now have over 20 of these XXXL t-shirts 😢.
wouldn’t it be better to just go average? surely the average fan is only overweight.
I’m a 6’4 and 270 pounds huge Celtics fan (pun intended) - I can’t afford to go to games - will you send me a shirt!??!
Speaking of PJs, I do wear them at home tho lol
This and itchy
how oversized? i’m an xl prob but if it was a 6x or above? that’s good shirt wearing.
Yeah it’s an XL and I’m a shmedium
I low key would rather a towel than a crap xl cheap shirt.
Yeah, I actually use the towels I have for decoration. The shirt doesn’t fit and hell no I’m wearing that.
I’m a big thrifter and they’re all there either XXL or massively shrunken to fit a child lol
I’ve gone to a playoff game every season in various rounds for the last like 8 years and have gotten a shirt from every one of them
I’ve been to two 1st round games and two ECF games and got a shirt in both 1st round games and a towel in both conference finals game’s surprisingly
Playoffs they used to change it up game to game and you’d get rally towels. I do like that the towels are much higher quality than a decade ago. Last year I think it was tshirts in the ECF and Finals
Go buy a scratch ticket bro.
Weird response. Just pointing out that they do give out free shirts lol
I think he means you’re lucky. Pretty common thing people say after something lucky happens to you
But it has nothing to do with luck lol. They give them out at every game in the playoffs.
I’ve been to 3-4 playoff games in the last few years and never got a thing
Many of the other comments here say at many playoff games it’s like towels or posters. Not always shirts. That’s why they said that
Not every game
I went to ECF game 7 in 2023 (the one that could have been 😔) and we got these tiny towels that I still to this day have no idea what to do with. So dumb.
I have my home opener towel from the championship season. I’ll always cherish it. But boy, that thing is a real piece of crap. To call it a towel is an insult to actual towels.
I went to game 1 of the ECF last year and the free shirt we got was just a basic black one that said “Let’s go Celtics”. Probably would’ve worn it if it was green tbh.
This is it for me too. I’m already wearing green when I show up, so why would I put black or white on top of that? I got a green shirt in 2017 and I think I put that one on during the game.
People in other cities put the shirt on because they don’t already have team clothing.
Why do people in other cities not already have team clothing?
A lot of people have the whole “I’ll wear what I want” mentality. I went to some playoff OKC games last year and it really adds to the experience. Most dedicated fans ever it was a lot of fun
I’m a 5’2” petite woman, the t-shirts are absolutely gigantic like a hospital gown so I much prefer my own outfits. Whether decked out in merch or not, I love how our fanbase is still going to bring it at TD Garden. I used to go to the Celtics impulsively straight from my work office in business clothes but you bet your ass I’m going to cheer like a maniac.
Petite celtics fans rise up! On our step stools.
Forget the shirts. It’s a cheap way to mask the repetitive chants and stale atmosphere in most stadiums. We need to start a culture of European singy-song chants in the Garden.
I like this idea, we need an intimidating Māori like chant. Rattle the opponents.
Because you go to a game to put your cute new outfit on the interwebs machine. Duh
Honestly felt that was more for the newer fan bases like okc used to do that a lot. I never liked it for us.
This may be downvoted but I always think that is a thing loser franchises do.
Feels to me like a thing the heat do to get their fake ass fans involved lol
Always XL for the bigger folks.
I put them on in the playoffs, but most other days, i pocket them. My section is green.

Great view, snipped it from the photo. I’m likely in front of the blur with brown hair on either side.
So hot, dude
I’ve got my black and gold shirt from game 5 of the finals. Of course it’s a Mavs shirt and I’ll never wear it. But I’ve got it.
Can’t remember which team it is, but one of them actually heavily requests the fans to wear them. Don’t think there’s much effort from the Celtics once they hand out the shirts
Ugly/wrong size
Unrelated to shirts but WOW this lineup brings back memories, good and bad. I used to go nuts at Brad rolling out the three guard lineups with IT, Smart, and AB. And then Crowder and Amir Johnson? Wow.
the nba lost so much aura in the past decade smh free shirts used to be a staple of EVERY playoff game
Look at the comments in this post. People just are buzzkill
yeah i was actually surprised reading some
Celtics fans never really got into it and I love it. We don’t need gimmicky shit like that, leave it for OKC.
Lol relax. Just playoff shirts
They’re scratchy XLs. Nice for a kids souvenir and not much else
Because the arena is mostly filled with the super rich. The average fan is mostly priced out
Probably because they are uncomfortable and don’t fit.
Because jerseys are like 100 bucks and the game is one of the few places you can regularly wear the merchandise you buy.
Got one at a playoff game against the cavs. - it’s black with green font that says “Protect the parquet” then it has the sponsor at the bottom as well as the year.
Because most people aren’t an XL
I wore the one they gave out at ECF game 1 last year, I wish everyone else would too
I always have the same observation! It would look amazing to have a sea of green the way OKC does blue, Miami (lol) does white…
That being said, so many of the recent promo shirts were either black or white. Everything should automatically be green.
Inflation
free shirts?? where
If I’m going to a playoff game that I’ve already spent hundreds to see, I am going to wear the \(120+ jersey I bought. When merch was \)15 a shirt and $60 for a stitched jersey it makes more sense. I understand the sentiment of the shirts, but I made specific choices when I came to the game, and I’d like to see those through
Tbh it’s kind of a bush league franchise move. They love that shit in Miami and OKC etc
We already have our own shirts/jerseys.
They’re oversized and made of sandpaper. But I still save them every time. Gonna give them to Sew Together Quilts in Tewksbury and make a dope blanket.
I wear my “You got Boston” G1 of the NBA finals shirt proudly, I just wore my Jaylen Brown jersey that night.
Because we don’t need them, everyone dresses in green anyway
I like my curated green outfit, so throwing a cheap T on top of that messes with my vibe.
b/c we don’t need cheesy stunts to have atmosphere
Always oversized and not the best quality. I take them wear them to the gym.
A little bit of thought to have green t shirts in some seats and black t shirts in other chairs to spell out, “Beat LA”.
Cause I don’t go often and when I do I usually wanna show off my new shirt or something instead of trying to change mid-game
Last time I had a free shirt on my chair(last season), it was size L and was too small. I cut it later at home and wore it there, but not at the arena.
They don’t give them out as much but I don’t really like them, it feels to me like teams who do that don’t have as strong as a fanbase (whether or not it’s true). Seems like a forced gimmick to try and get engagement. I’d rather the fans come to the game repping the team the way they want, feels more authentic and more passionate
Because I pay a few hundred beans for the jersey I have on. Not gonna wear some lame tshirt over it. I gather those free shirts and give them to the homeless outside of the garden and keep one for myself as a yard work shirt.
Because they’re for poverty franchises
I always appreciated that we never really did the free T-shirt thing, and the crowd is still entirely a blend of green and white. We have our own gear, and make our own atmosphere organically.
More casuals at the games now, hardcores have been priced out
Casuals wear the free Tshirts. Diehards wear their ketchup stained jackets from 1998
Hardcores never did that shit lol you think 40 year old Irish dude’s from Charlestown and Revere are the one’s wearing those stupid XL shirts? That’s yuppie shit.
Because those shirts are for cities with zero championships. Looks like a college game. We are drip lords in Boston and are wearing our authentics and throwbacks.
Please don’t say drip lords ever again
Apparently you are not one. Wear the free shirt then
We’ve done like 5 shirts last playoffs.
Friendly reminder that the internet is full of fucking morons.
And no one wears them because it’s a loser ass thing to do. Just ask all the teams that do it and never win.
